Are a great thing for this board I think. Can you remember
the last time so much music was discussed on this board?
It's great. I'm finding out about stuff I'd never heard of
and getting a list of stuff to check out. I'm loving it.
Anyone else think they're a great thing?

Why can't we just talk about biscuits like normal people

maybe we should ban the music topics to a different forum

the feature is nice.

although I dislike the militant opening message.

"YOU VILL BE DELETED!!!"

They're a great idea I think. As long as it doesn't get
overused/abused it's a sweet addition.

Can't see myself ever using it mind

it's a great feature. Actually i want to start a LOT of
topics now, but i'll spread it haha... Som many great cd's,
and this feature is a good way to talk about it... and
giginger is right, never before so much music related topics
are on top...

Kinda scares you into trying to come up with worthy opinions
doesn't it? "The structure of the album is great, err,
groundbreaking release in terms of... err... I'm sorry I'm
stupid DON'T KILL ME!"

There's nothing wrong with biscuit talk mate. I'm all up for
that. But I still like the threads.

It's being overused now, but it will die down

maybe their should be an option to ignore these threads in
the user profiles?

yes and people mostly seem to use it without any addition.

so then you get replies like: "oh yes I like it" or "oh gosh
I hate this" and not much more.

it doesn't open up discussion really.

that would be cool, maybe a slider where you can adjust the
crap/nocrap ratio

i don't think it's overused at all, it's a great way to
discuss al kinds of releases and have the posibility to look
at them in the discog at the same time

a mb like this is to discuss music in the first place
right...

offline Erronous from Netherlands, The on 2003-10-21 03:35 [#00911693]
Points: 2519 Status: Lurker | Followup to Refund: #00911684

ofcourse it's 'overused' now because it's new. When most
releases have been discussed, it will go down....

still, 'overused'... bit misplaced

well qrter, the way i see it now you indeed use it without
addition, but why do you post then? you don't have to right?

offline Morton from out (Netherlands, The) on 2003-10-21 03:41 [#00911698]

i don't see where you're all coming from, imo it's better to
have a discussion about a release in one and the same thread
instead of having 10 different ones by 10 different members
(which is the matter esp. with new releases ie draft, spokes
chocolate wheelchair etc).

when you want to see opinions about a release you can just
look in those 'main' threads now, instead of doing a search
and find 15 threads about it, all with 7 replies or
something

all imho of course

I did give an addition.

there is an error in the tracklisting.

Why do those threads get precendence though? If I wanted to
read about WITBOAS I'd read one of the older ones.

At the moment it's more of a novelty as opposed to the norm
which it will probably become.

offline Morton from out (Netherlands, The) on 2003-10-21 03:52 [#00911710]
Points: 10000 Status: Addict | Followup to Jarworski: #00911707

'cause in time they proably will become larger than the
other ones (since you can acces them via the discography)
and you also have a link to the tracksamples and info
(discog) in those threads

offline Morton from out (Netherlands, The) on 2003-10-21 03:54 [#00911711]

it just takes some time before it'll be worthwhile

and that's exactly the reason there can't be too much of
those threads :P

That's what I mean. At the moment it's probably better
suited to digging up stuff which is underrated or overlooked
rather than albums which have been discussed to death
already. And for new releases these threads should become
standard.

what happens if 2 people both click discuss on the same
release, will it create two threads or bump the first one?

offline giginger from Milky Beans (United Kingdom) on 2003-10-21 03:57 [#00911714]

I definitely agree it's better suited to the lesser known
artists. Best way to bring them to peoples attention. The
thread stands out a bit more and people know what they can
get more info by following a link inside the thread. Boyah!

the second one will be directed to the already existing
thread and it'll only get bumped if he replies something in
there i think

You'll go to the already developed one. It tells you in the
discog there's a thread and how many replies there are.

i don't like the grey/green/black/thing colour used for the
title topics, i think it uglies the board a bit, but apart
from that it's a good idea yes. : )

sure, new stuff are interesting to ppl, that's why it's
being used a lot now.... but it will fade down a little.

future version of this mb will have filtering options, so
that you can choose to hide the "release discussions" or
hide "music spam" threads (cos the creator will have to tag
the thread as "music spam" or something).

ppl are fast on judging stuff i've noticed. and too proud to
admit something actually was good after all, after a while.

old...I mean ICBYD?WITBOAS? Jega-Geometry?what's left to be
said??

next thing which would be usefull are threads aboput new
artists founded by ppl's. i found several new artists but no
way to show them - thread about unknown names are going down
pretty fast.
these discussion thread are quite good i think

the creator will have to tag
the thread as "music spam"

thats a good idea.. what about splitting the forum up into
say 3 different boards: general discussion, releases, and
artist spam? that would be nice, because then you wouldn't
have to mess with filter settings if you just want to go
looking for peoples tracks..,/ or something

noooo, i hate that about the watmm forum and mb's alike, i
always have the feeling i miss stuff when i look in only one
or two sections, i like the filter idea better, it's still
all kept together then :)

NO NO NO !

i prefer this filter idea. it should stay just to ONE board.

Filters sounds like a good idea. Will they be set filter or
we create our own?

offline Phobiazero from the next Xltronic (Sweden) on 2003-10-21 05:51 [#00911890]
Points: 10507 Status: Webmaster | Show recordbag

i've always wanted this mb to stay in ONE piece, just to
make sure you dont miss anything and i'm afraid it would
split the community a little bit too.

but one way of filter out music spam would be to tag topics
and the user has the option to hide such topics. the same
would go for "official release discussions". it would also
be possible to show only "release discussions" if that would
be more accurate for someone. personally i'd have all kind
of topics shown because i dont have a problem with it.
