I've got ask why you give links to discogs when there's a
perfectly good discog here. Admittedly not finished but
still....

he gave the link because it's not finished... makes sense,
eh? :)

And to answer the question: Only close friends/family of BOC
have these releases. They were never commercially released,
and were given out in small quantities to said family and
friends. BOC has made no committment to ever releasing these
early recordings (which go back to the late 80's when BOC
was more than just Mike and Marcus).

Do NOT be fooled by any of the fakes floating about on the
P2P networks... all fake.

because none of them are or will be included in the
discography so its a fair question. well it would br if it
hadnt been discussed to death.

no, no-one has them and no-one ever will i suspect

not ALL of them are fake

the 24 second extract of duffy is genuine

Yes, because that was grabbed off the old Cosmic Crofter BOC
fansite before boardsofcanada.com came about.

And, they ARE in the discography here, albiet with broken
image links.

No... none of those tracks appear on other releases (at
least the ones he was asking about, there are quite a few
releases in the BOC back catalogue before Twoism that were
not listed on the old BOC site... what was on that site was
the Cosmic Crofter's personal collection of what BOC had
given him, hence the gaps in catalogue numbers.

Which tapes? Not all the old BOC releases are on cassette.

If you're referring to 'those' tapes, the earliest one dates
to 1991-1995, and the other is dated 1996.

they'd go for a fortune on ebay... if anyone ever wanted to
sell one of their versions... although I'm sure it never
will be sold on ebay, if only family and good friends have
them... that would be an end to the relationship I' sure...

On that site its shows that like 100-200 tapes or CDs of
these homemade releases came out. So you'd expect a whole
bunch to be floating about somewhere.

This is great though it all adds to the feel and vibe of a
band. If everything was instantly available then its boring.
BOC will probably creep out these old releases like one
every 2 or 3 years over the next decade in order to keep
fans excited. It'll be the same with Aphex. He'll release
old stuff too in the same way over the next decade or so to
keep interest going.

true. its not uncommon for people to dislike their first
'releases' (and its important that i punctuate 'releases')

You bet your arse Warp are probably looking at an opportune
moment to release some earlier BOC. They'll probably go for
the 94 release first I reckon and work their way back or
could be the other way.

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2003-10-21 12:46 [#00912317]

Last I heard Mike & Marcus are more interested in releasing
their newer material... I am sure they hold those old tracks
in high regard, but they've moved on musically from that
point and want to do new things more.

I highly doubt BOC did 100 DIY copies of each... Twoism I
could see (due to commerical pressing minimums, etc.). Those
numbers were probably put there just to give fans the
indication they were actual releases, and not private
collections.

Somebody had a Hooper Bay 12" on ebay about a year ago, but
it mysteriously got pulled when the seller said he was
'asked' to do so.

A WARP/Music70 Box (BoC) Set would be lovely, with the best
tracks from each of the old releases selected, or all of
them together.

Another thing I never thought of is since BoC had more than
just Mike & Marcus in the band, perhaps there are
royalty/copyright issues that are preventing the old
releases from coming out. Perhaps they can't get in touch
with certain old bandmembers to gain permission.

The world may never know...

i refuse to believe that all these old RDJ and BoC cassette
tapes that were given out in the '80s and early '90s are ALL
in good hands or have been lost.. i think there are some
very quiet and very rich and/or foolish with money
super-fans out there who have these in their possession.

Titsworth,

Interesting theory. Could be so. We will never know I guess.
Whatever the case these tapes do simply create more intrigue
and interest in BOC. I wonder if there is even older
material dotting about somewhere afterall BOC supposedly
started in 1982?
