Great release. Not perfect as some tracks are a bit too
weird for my liking (e.g. Dad with its distorted voice).
Strong points are In Quod, Sink Snow Angel, Stairs Song and
Cashew.

cool vsnares is added to the discog :)

i love this release of his, quite different from the others
imo,
so many great tracks; in quod, january, tattoo, stairs song,
suffocate, sink snow angel, dad etc...
looks like that june2004 album is gonna be quite the same
style, can't wait for that,
discuss:

It really bad mix of decent and terrible tracks. I don't
know if Snares fancies himself as a comedian, but the track
with the about the girl with the machine gun was boring and
made him sound like a joke. Far too many of the tracks are
exercises in drum programming that get boring after the
first 20 seconds. Lacks any emotion or variation for most
of the album. I like about 4 of the tracks all together.

I have not listened to album very much but ecnadniarb's
opinion is the same as mine near enough.

I do however, LOVE Suffocate, but even that begins to drag
after a while.

Only the same artist but different release....

It says in the discog that you can get Nymphomatriach on
Vinyl. I didn't see this anywhere. Where could I get it?

I agree completely. It is almost as if we are watching this
artist develop right before our eyes on some sort of a
reality IDM show. :D

Anyways i prefer Find Candace if i had to choose

i thought nymphomatriarch was a bit of a let down. i was
chatting to snares on slsk and he gave me pervs a while
before the album was released. based on that track, i
thought the album was going to be pretty decent. i was
disappointed.
anyone that titles a track 'hymen tramp choir' has my
respect tho'. eugh.

It's not what I was hoping for to be honest but there's a
couple of tracks I'd love to drop in a set. I cant remember
their names though. The names are good :)

can't believe he split up with rachel kozac so soon. you'd
think if you were going to make such an...erm...intimate
album you wouldn't be breaking up anytime soon. i guess you
can never know what's going to happen tho'.
bet it was fun to make.

(sorry for the lack of venetian snares info, but we've just
started on adding his stuff, loads of other stuff added
lately to the discog tho!)

this album is beautiful, more subtle, more precise,
calculated etc. ... everything happens exactly when it has
to... it gives you a lot more headspace, and the textures
are probably the best Snares has offered to date (although i
haven't heard the new one yet)... i thought the Danzig cover
was cool, and it's always nice when covers are original...
as opposed to being mediocre rip-offs...

january and in quod

I don't like how "deconstructed" most of the tracks sound,
vsnares just doesn't do it for me unless it has some ultra
tight hardcore beats going on or brilliant melodies, this
release IMO has some of his lamest attempts at melodies, and
the blipiness of the drums detracts from how they sound, I
could rate almost any other release of his higher than this

I like it a lot, these deconstructed glitched up VSNARES
releases are my kinda VSNARES, Songs About My Cats is still
tops with me. His drill stuff on the other hand, I find
predictable and dull.

this is his best album by a long chalk.. its like classical
muisc with the melodies. and the drums are fucking wicked
much more original than his d'n'b stuff (which incidently
kicks mutherfuckin ass). every track on this album is
essential as far as i can see

wow I think I have the opposite musical taste in some
respects to some of you people. this album is hella
emotional and the melodies are very touching. I dig the
semi-detached, claustrophobic, depressed mood and the
mind-numbing rhythmic structure. my favorite snares album.

I am amazed how so many people dislike it here, I thought
this mb was very pro snares

It's not a case of disliking it, but in relation to other
stuff it isn't that amazing. I really really don't mind
snares and I do listen to his stuff quite often, it is just
that there is often more waste than quality on his
albums...If you took his music output for a year you could
select an album worth of excellent tracks, which for me at
least, would be better than 3 inconsistent albums.

Equally I know a lot of it is down to taste.

i agree, but perhaps this is better for the fans...this way
everyone can make a compilation out of the tunes they like.
im sure vsnares would be more appreciated by many people
then, but this way is better for his fans.so im ok with it.
actually i wouldn't mind if afx would be doing the same
thing.

I dont see weak tracks in doll doll doll, find candance or
making orange things

nor in witboas

i guess you ve got a wider knowledge of music anyway so...

hmm, making orange things is the only one i can listen from
start to finish...well sometimes doll doll doll too. i like
his stuff, but im not crazy about it :)
i would like to see him live again tho...

It depends on whether you expect your fans to download or
buy your album...I don't buy new snares, I buy new autechre
and I would probably still buy new Aphex though.

its incredible though how many he has released in just 3
years.

its not my opinion, but for those who think he has weak and
inconsistent releases, they must admit that at least 3 or 4
of his releases are top material... and thats far better
than average (3 or 4 great albums in 3 years)

Not really...you throw enough shit and some of it will
stick. If you have spent £200+ on 3 to 4 excellent albums
worth of stuff you aren't going to be too happy.

stuff..
none of his stuff bores me :)

Not when you have to pay for it. Hippy ideals have no place
in the modern world and the sooner you beetniks realise it
the better.

i was very impressed by the rhythm element of this album.
the extreme attention to detail in snares' programming
prevails. i do however find the melodies a bit lacking and
sometimes incomplete. i'm a fan of "dad", i think the vocals
work very well on that track especially. quite liked "in
quod" as well, but there weren't really any other tracks
that i wanted to listen to much. so i gave it to a friend.

thats because you're listening to the master of half assed
melodies over boring breaks

well i like the melodic content of quite a lot of the snares
records i've heard. the tunes on,say, 2370894 (my fave
snares cd) are maybe a little more subtle at times, but i
find they encourage repeated listening. i just haven't found
the tunes on w.i.t.b.o.a.s. or "huge chrome..." particularly
inspiring y'know. the last track of the latter is a notable
exception.

witboas
hccbu

sorry to bump this a year later... but didnt want to start
new thread, cos people go wild against it

listening to this now
I ve been this last days listening to all the vsnares cds
from last album to first one (released)
now I reached doll doll doll and its without a doubt one of
the strongest musically talking... apart from being very
suffocating, strong and dark, it is beautiful and very
powerful, with a deep sense of music I would say... not only
beats or melodies... simply good structured music

top quality
