i'm not reading any of these posts because i don't want
anything in the movie to be ruined for me - i am seeing this
fucking film THIS weekend because Tarantino is one of my
favourite directors - and Pulp Fiction is one of my
favourite movies of ALL time.

i am going to move to fucking japan and me and gogo will go
out and get drunk. She'll tell me that farari's are italian
trash and ask me if I want to screw her and i'll be all like
"yeah yeah" then i'll quick move so she doesn't stab me.
Then i'll hit it from the back.

mia wallace is the Bride. That's why they kept bleeping her
name.

1. I like how the film keeps the viewers attention. I went
with a friend of mine who really doesn't care for Quentin's
movies but on Kill Bill he was interested. Also the
soundtrack was great for the sequences. I like many of the
song but my fav is "Twisted Nerve" - Bernard Herrmann and
"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" - Santa Esmeralda.

2. My fav. scene, err..well choosing out of many. I like
that 1 shot scene where the camera moves from place to play
in the restaurant. I also like the dark silhouette fight
scene.

3. If i can recall correctly, "This cocksucker's still
alive". I love how a cop is refering to something that is
mostly dead a cocksucker.

yeah, i was just making a wild speculation based on the fact
that the deadly viper assasination squad is very remeniscent
of fox force five mentioned in pulp fiction.

i really enjoyed the movie! the thing that bothers me about
these HIGHLY anticipated movies is ALL THE DAMN HYPE. it
kinda takes away from the movie for me. i like seeing movies
i know next to nothing about, that way expectations are NOT
dashed.

with that said however, i thing Tarantino is a brilliant
visionary. i loved the REAL movie and anime side
movie.....it was so cool. very original. i also liked the
dialogue in quite a few different scenes.....so funny....and
subtle.

my fav scene and character was Oshi Ren and the fight scene
in the snow was such a beautiful one, it's what i always
come back to. what a great juxaposition of violence and
quiet beauty....ehehhe brilliant

i also wish Gogo hadn't been killed, she is just really
watchable....i wish she'd had more scenes.....the one where
she PENETRATED the guy was classic......muahahhahahha

i'm looking forward to Vol 2 and looking forward to getting
the soundtrack.

the 5, 6, 7, 8's were great.....

the music was terrific.. i can't wait to get the soundtrack

supposedly there will be a lot more RZA on vol. 2 but there
was still at least 3 score pieces by him i recognized in the
film

i liked the soundtrack during the film but i downloaded it
and was listening to it on it's own and it doesn't really
"do it" for me. But i have though the same thing about all
the Tarantino soundtracks. usually there are a couple
tracks i like, and maybe one good dialogue track and the
rest i just skip over.

my favorite soundtrack is probably reservoir doggs, just for
the madonna speach and harvey keitel's lets get a taco
monologue.

man you really need to immerse yourself in the great
soundtrack composers of the 60s-80s.. once you've schooled
yourself in morricone, schifrin, quincy jones, herrmann,
moroder, etc. you'll really appreciate this soundtrack..
it's a great mix of stuff (IMO)

offline evolume from seattle (United States) on 2003-10-16 12:39 [#00904503]

well i agree that it's a great soundtrack, i just
appreciated it more when it actually acompanied the movie. i
just couldn't sit and listen to it on it's own. well most
of it. i really like a few of the tracks. as for the rest,
i like it in the film, just not say... in my car.

i guess, to give some perspective of my soundtrack tastes,
my all time favorite soundtrack is Natural Born Killers.
and then maybe.. hmm.. the score to Thin Red Line. oh and
can't forget P. Gabriel's 'Passion.' and the soundtracks to
'rushmore' and 'royal tennenbaums.' and, oh yeah, i always
liked City of Lost CHildren.

NBK is perhaps my all-time favorite too :) i've met the guy
who scored the thin red line and seen his work performed
live by a quartet named after him, and i think passion is a
great score too.. rushmore and royal ten~ are fun rock
compilations. you have good taste in soundtracks, that or we
both lack it!

"i can't remember much of the movie other than it was
mindblowingly astronomical. "

hilarious.

despite the fact that the movie is split in half in part
because it's a good way to cash in on the rapid-release
trilogy trend of the past year or so, I think it was a
smart, unconventional move. it ended on a cliffhanger, they
must've had an easy time figuring where, exactly, to cut
it.. but I am excited to go back for what will feel like a
sequel. I think having it in it's original 3.5 hr form would
have been too much anyway. I just hope the dvd is a 2-disc
set and not treated like a real part one and part two (ie
released as separate movies)

Excellent film. Soundtrack wasn't up to usual Tarantino
standards and it was a wee bit of a departure but all in all
it was nails and I'm gonna get the DVD.

Loved the use of anime too, and I'm not a big fan of it.
Just really ingenious and silly.

It was a good half-a-film. Only good. Not great like Pulp
Fiction was. *struggles to find something genuinely praising
to say about it rather than just that it was ok* I liked the
scene where Uma Thurman met someone and didn't kill him.
*offers lame smile to the mb*

exactly.. hence it's not a cash-in. it was really the only
thing they COULD do.

same. that WOULD be a cash-in. plus it doesn't make sense;
some poor sap out there would buy vol. 2, having never seen
either before, and pop it in. he'd end up very confused and
annoyed at himself. i really hope they don't split the dvd
into separate releases. i could make an analogy to how the
godfather, when it went on home video, wasn't split into
separate releases for each of the two tapes, nor was
scarface, etc., but these long movies weren't divided into
separate films like kill bill is. i just hope they don't get
greedy..

"i've met the guy who scored the thin red line"

Yeah that's great until you found out that Hans Zimmer wrote
his music from the temp track to Mallick's early cut of the
film, which included stuff by Phillip Glass and Brian Eno.
So basically, he re-wrote Glass (there's exact quotes of
some of Glass' piano work through the movie) and Eno.

But then again Zimmer was and will always be a second-class
movie music artist

his cover of "video killed the radio star" but have never

Fucking Great.

Saw it Friday night with my GF then Saturday night with a
mate and was blown away.

I love the blood raining on O-Rens Father. A nice tribute to
Ninja Scroll.

"Wiggle your big toe" is the next "Royale with Cheese"...

The cinimatic shots with the music and perfectly timed
tension build actually made me cry with excitment in the
O-ren Vs The Bride scene.

I'm seeing this again and again!

came to the movie with spprehensions about QT's new flick,
but now it's ay alltime favorite movie EVER ! OMG the anime
sequence was GREAT ! and every time I saw "Deadly Viper
Assassination Squad I burst into unconntrollable fits of
laughter.... maybe I should see it not drunk once or 9

GREAT tie in..... JESUS going to see it again tonight !

Hans Zimmer didn't write anything related to Forrest Gump,
that was Alan Silvestri, a much better compser with much
more class and understanding of classical movie scoring :)

Oh and as for John Corigliano, he wrote much better stuff in
the early 80's, especially for the movie "Altered States",
which is an atonal 20-century modern music composition for
the movie.

They could have, but it wouldn't have been as good.

I think Miramax learnt their lesson the hard way when it
comes to shortening films. Peter Jackson offered them the
Lord Of The Rings project. They said they would back him if
he could get all 3 books into one 2-hour film. He said no,
approached New Line and the rest, as they say, is history.

before we even see the second half, i doubt anyone can
accurately assume that there is an hour of delible material
to cut.

i agree though that this could likely start a rash of big
studio's cutting crappy 3.5 hour films into two parts in an
effort to double the admission. And also, more than
doubling the number of possible showings per screen, per
day.

an hour and a half long film can potentially play like 8 or
9 times a day per screen while a 3 hour movie can only play
3 or 4 times. depending on the theatre.

Longer films don't necessarily equal reduced box office.
Just look at Titanic, the highest grosser ever.

The vast majority of people in the US and Europe now watch
movies in multiplexes. The tendency is to run longer films
on two screens and just not show some other film that's not
expected to have a high gross.

The result is maintained revenue at the expense of choice.

yes but per screen, a 3.5 hour movie simply cannot
play as many times in a day as a 1.5 hour movie. this, of
course, is most important on opening weekend which has a
finite number of hours that actually qualilfy as the
"opening weekend."

anyway, the real kicker is charging 2 admission's to see 1
movie by splitting it in two. which i think sucks but for
Kill Bill, i suspect it will be well worth it.
