What a shit album...apart from two tracks that are mildly interesting the album is wank. Everyone's doing the Ragga thing now too...boring...
Snares tracks are even songs...it is uninspired shit random chop up beats...then he has a seperate weak as fuck melody playing at the same time...there is never any interaction between the two...I seriously can't understand how he is having stuff released on a label when there are people both here and on WATMM that could shit on him and his wank music.

Venetian Snares is good from what I heard, but too abrasive to listen to in the long run. Especially if you have a job and twelve kids to feed, and a stable to keep clean for all your ponies and glue to buy to sell to Brazilian kids in exchange for crack cocaine. and fuckin bananas cockwank fuck bastard etc etc etc.

I try not to concern myself about how music is made. If it got to a point where I thought, shit I could do that so I won't bother buying it, things would get pretty lame the more talented I get. Something complicated can sound just as good as something uncomplicated. I'd rather enjoy the sounds instead of ruining it for myself by stripping it to pieces. Also, if you don't like something the next person will so all music has its place.
Slagging music off sure is fun tho, releases a lot of tension.
I used to hate snares because of some of his tracks but I found the simple solution to this was to buy only the stuff I like and disregard the rest. I'm looking forward to hearing this album, I hope I don't like it in a way so I can save my cash for the next Rephlex releases.
I wish AFX was as productive as snares.

Yep I track 5 was one of the only 2 I thought was OK...but all this Ragga bandwagon jumping is bollocks...The Bug did it best...I think snares effort is better than the AFX remix but that's not saying all that much.
Overall I am getting very disillusioned with electronic music in general. Sure there is still some decent stuff, but for me it has lost it's edge :(

I haven't heard Chocolate Wheelchair yet, but his ''new'' one (due out June 2004) sounds good, judging the little sound clips... nice old school videogame flavor. So I'm diggin' it.
He's good, but the guy puts out too much stuff, and he's not talented enough to consistently put out great stuff. Too much filler. Doll Doll Doll is still my favorite.

I listened to it again today and I suppose it's not as bad as I first thought it was...it is the kind of thing you would get a few listens out of and then never listen to again.
There is still so much better stuff out there though that doesn't even get a look in. I have said in the past I don't think badly of snares, he does what he has to do to make a living. He is the Madonna of electronic music, not particularly talented music wise but there is something about what he does that appeals to quite a few people...good luck to him.

Some of you act a bit elitist by expecting music to be written in CSound/MaxMSP in order to enjoy it.
If you dont like it: fine, but don't go all "his music is crap because it's just triggering samples" (which you, in all honesty, don't even know for sure).

Don't be daft...there are a lot of artists who do exactly the same as snares but better. Squarepusher makes music..his tracks in general sound as though they have been crafted, the sounds play off each other. As I said previously tons of snares stuff just sounds like a chopped up beat with a melody as an after thought, as though he produces his percussion then tries to tack something over the top. Also, a lot of his stuff is the same thing over and over (phasing the sound from left to right is a major thing I dislike from him). He doesn't even seem to develop, everything he releases seems to be his drill take on the current flavour in electronic music, rarely it pays off but most of the time it is just forgettable.

Snares is wicked. The only problem I have with his stuff is it never really grooves. His best is 'Good Jungle' off Shitfuckers, 'Skelechairs Remix', 'Dance Like You're Selling Nails' and 'Einstein Rosen Bridge'. They're the most stable sounding I reckon.
In summery: Incredible beatage, but just not enough rhythm for my liking.

That's exactly what I mean :)
No, Aaron is not a brilliant composer, I think of him more as a beat programmer. And that, dear ecnadniarb, is something he is very good at. No, melody is certainly not something that ranks high with Mr. Funk.
So, concluding, Aaron Funk is not a composer whose tracks you play, put on headphones and go analysing every subtle sound and interaction with melody etc. To me, his tracks are the party music of alternative electronic music. Play his tracks and don't even start analysing his sounds as if it were >[] or ae.

i dont even know what Csound is. or maxMSP. and as far as elitsm goes...
i don't listen to any old crap that comes down the pike. if that's elitism, then sorry. i like artistic stuff, not slopped together garbage. i like things with a certain mentality behind them. i dont like pedophilia or people who try to be "f***ed up".
elitism comes from being egotistical and thinking you are superior.
having an opinion or a higher standard for art is just that.

CSound and MaxMSP were just technical examples. What I was referring to, though, is music that is created almost in a scientific way, music like ae does. Not implying that I don't like autechre or music put together "artistically", as you put it. I'm not criticizing your taste either. I just think it should be possible to enjoy music that is made to have fun listening to, rather than analysing every little scrap of "artistically" created little sound while smoking a pipe and drinking Courvoisier.
Futhermore, I refer to both my previous post directed at ecnadniarb and Winter In the Belly of a Snake (that's also by VSnares)

I remember people used to say all these things about RJ back in the 90's - Especially when the Classics album came out - I remember everyone was just as divided back then.
I can totally understand why some people don't "get" Snares' music, I'm actually surprised I'm into it! It's not the kind of stuff I usually go for atall...
I (personally) think Snares' music is about 5+ years ahead of its time - Exactly what a lot of us thought about Aphexs' early stuff.
Just my opinion of course - But any (remotely) groundbreaking artist always comes under heavy critisism for the first half of their career.
