XLT Battle Tornament?

What do you reckon?

Everyone who wants to enter can enter...the first round will
be drawn at random. There will be a deadline (say one/two
weeks) for each person to enter their track. A thread is
started for each battle and people listen to both tracks and
vote on the one they think is best, saying why. The winner
moves on to the next round. The only thing is that each
subsequent round you must remix your competitors previous
track as your entry...you can alter it as much as you like
providing there is a definite reference to the previous
track.

Anyone up for it?

this should be done in a world cup style

32 people
8 groups of 4 top 2 go through
then its a random draw between the last 16

just a thought

Since it's just for fun there shouldn't be lame complex
"political" rules, like "only people who didn't enter can
vote" (to avoid a competitor voting out competition).
Instead just trust others will be honest, not that the
outcome really matters much anyway, and let anyone vote who
reads the thread of each "battle"?

xltronic needs some sort of monthly battle feature like this
or something.

What ever happened to www.funkungforum.co.uk... that stupid
telefon tel aviv remix... did everyone die?

offline Q4Z2X on 2003-10-07 23:47 [#00893909]

it would be cool if the people had to remix the same track
as their competitor, to make it more fair..

then it'd be whoever makes a better remix from the same
track..

No I had changed my mind anyway ...because that rule makes
it a bit a biased towards people who use certain packages.

what if two people do tracks of different styles?
like drill VS ambient?
hard to judge then.

Not really, people can still say which song they prefer.

offline Q4Z2X on 2003-10-08 01:52 [#00893976]
Points: 5264 Status: Lurker

i thought the remix part would be a good idea.. just if two
people were remixing the same track.. it'd be easier to
judge.. you'd just pick the mix that best uses the sounds
from the original to make something different..
otherwise it'd be pretty tough to choose between two
different tracks with no similarities or any of the same
sounds..
plus, you could then randomly assign to people really
cheesy, bad songs, such as something by the spin doctors, or
mc hammer's "to legit 2 quit", kriss kross, or something
from the eagles..

offline od_step_cloak from Pleth (Australia) on 2003-10-08 01:52 [#00893977]

mm yeah i guess.
good thin it's not being done on the µ board or it'd be a
compoetition of who can do the best ragga breakcore

;-)

How about if different sample packs are provided for each
round and the tracks have to feature at least a couple of
them recognisably?

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-10-08 02:33 [#00894010]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Followup to Q4Z2X: #00893976 | Show recordbag

haha, actually that is a very good idea...the first round
matches will be assigned bad songs to remix. Each round
after their will be a track from the previous round assigned
to new next match...all this stuff will be sorted before the
competition starts so noone can be accused of fixing it :D

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-10-08 02:34 [#00894011]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Followup to Ceri JC: #00894009 | Show recordbag

Nah because that means someone has to produce the sample
packs, and I can't be arsed...so unless there is a volunteer
to do that?

KADO you are more than welcome to join in.

offline od_step_cloak from Pleth (Australia) on 2003-10-08 02:35 [#00894013]

naw fuckthat, you get too many rules in these competitions
and it turns into a competition to see who can actually
follow the fucking rules and make a coherent tune let alone
a good one.

so we end up with a lot of crap tracks that follow weird
rules.

offline KADO from The Belafonte (United Kingdom) on 2003-10-08 02:39 [#00894018]

So when are we pulling names out of the hat for the first
round?

offline od_step_cloak from Pleth (Australia) on 2003-10-08 02:41 [#00894020]
Points: 3803 Status: Regular

uhh i think we have to decied on the rules first, and then
who's actually entering.

i think i'm out.
yeah i'm out, sorry.

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-10-08 02:41 [#00894021]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

No...right...this is it...

First round you do whatever the fuck you want.

Each round after that you have to remix a track from a
winner of the previous round but not in your match up.
These will be set out from the beginning so you don't have
to worry about the rules.

If I get a chance later I will do a table showing what I
mean.

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-10-08 02:44 [#00894025]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

I was just sounding people out first anyway. If there are
enough people interested I will sort the rest of it out
later. I still don't think enough people have said they are
interested though.
