Some tracks (not all) by amon tobin bore me, especially those that are very jazzy.

i think it's hilarious that people actually disregard snares because of child-violence allusions... that's fucking ridiculous and close-minded... i'm sure you would respond the same way to your favourite artist if they inserted a similar sample... people are just so hellbent on hating on snares...

yeah, i actually saw vsnares' 'doll doll doll' and whatever else he released with references to child killing as a sort of satire of an odd trend in 'idm' to dwell on childhood nostalgia. kid606 called it 'self pedophilia' in an interview.
having said that, im not a particularly big fan of snares or the kid, but for the simple reason that their music doesnt really do anything for me. and there are plenty of other artists i am indifferent about, though none i strongly dislike.

plaid, mira calix, chris clark, kid 606 (except for soccer girl EP.. yum), uziq, lots more that i usually dont like to mention cause people try to talk you into liking them over the internet.. like all of the sudden thay are going to make some point that makes you totally like the artist all of the sudden...
just doesn't sound good to my ears.

There's nothing I DISLIKE, per se, but there's some stuff that has disapointed me. I find Ovuca pretty boring, and a lot of Bogdan a bit samey (but he has some great shit)... used to not be able to swallow Snares, but I think he's gotten a lot better. Making progress whilst he releases 20 albums a year.
And any ''noise'' shit. Although it's probably not IDM any longer if it has no semblance of dancability!

most of it . only some of it is good - most rephlex releases are great though esp this year wiith the bug and stuff like the victor gama from the samples a very varied label that you can't pin down
half te warp releases are good esp squarepusher and aphex and broadcast etc ... but it's stil got a sound -
planet-mu are just too "idm" for me - i kinda like music with a human element - although some of snares stuff hrvatski's stuff and remarc's stuff is ace overall.
some leaf stuff is good too but then the more ambient stuff like morr music bores the pants off me .

i think the connection between vsnares and BoC is flimsy at best. i think aaron puts those samples in his music and gives them those witty titles because he likes it and he thinks it adds an edge to his music (and often it does, but it's still tacky and the mark of a gimmick artist).

i think the reason it would ever give his music any kind of edge is because everyone else in the scene is doing the exact opposite though -- not just boc, but i think they are a prime example of it.

hmm i 'd say his music is pretty edgy - and boc and snares both cnvey a sense of uncomfortable childhood memory - reinforced by the samples

a lot of idm discomforts.. autechre made a career out of making discomforting music and they rarely ever use samples. i don't think there's much of a connection between boc and snares, and i certainly don't think aaron is really trying to be clever by doing ironic sampling. he doesn't strike me as an intellectual or a social critic. i like the samples he throws into his music but it's cheap.

so, is he doing this for psychological reasons, then? is he studying something? will there be test results? no. i think not. the honest truth is that he isn't "exploring the depth of human emotions", he's a sick guy who gets his rocks off on thinking about little girls getting raped and stuff. yay. isn't he brilliant? isn't he scary and shocking?
