Yeah I watched it... and I was in heaven! Although my actual
collection of turntablism would not have you believe it, I'm
a huge fan and have a lot of respect for turntablists..

Ditto. I really want to see this, but I don't fancy shelling
out £20 for a dvd for the privalige...

I'll bide my time till someone I know gets it or it's on
again.

I've heard of it, but alas I don't live in England...

DJ Xammax: Me to man... I love turntabalists... dj music
like that kicks ass, although I really have only one album
of the style really...

Everytime I hear the name of this DVD I think of Qbert's
scratch routine that he did using only two records- an
instrumental and a battle wax with the famous "all that
scratching is making me itch" sample on it.

qbert is all over this DVD. a special animation
(soundtracked by his turntables) is even featured on the
bonus disc. you quite literally don't know what you're
missing!

look at me... all this scratching is making me bitch!

I make my own turntable music. Granted its not Qbert, but
Ive been at it a few years and am fairly proficient,
although my setup is not ideal. I use stanton str860 direct
drive turntables which are good, but are not as good as
1210s with shure m447 carts for more extreme tricks. i use a
vestax pmc06 scratch mixer which is top quality though.

Generally i practice for about and hour a day, which is
inadequate, but hey with work and all whats a man to do?

Anyone else into this sort of turntablism lark? Ive gotta
admit sometimes my wrists cane, but its worth it, since you
scratch away out of time and out of tune, but keep trying
and then the next day. bam, your'e in the zone and you ARE
qbert!

I'm learning turntabilism. I'm definately getting better but
I'm still not even "average" by a long way. I can do some of
the simpler scratches and can tear quite well. My cueing by
sight and needle dropping is suprisingly accurate given my
relative inexperience and I can do a 2 bar rewind loop on
two identical records quite accurately. Saving up for either
a PMC06 Pro D (if it comes back down in price in the new
year) or a PMC05 Pro (not the samurai version) if the
Samurai06 is still out of my reach. You can hear some of my
scratching (sounds a bit like r2d2 "talking") on my ae
remix. I DJ occasionally and at paid gigs tend just beat mix
as I'm worried about making mistakes, the only time I've
done anything resembling turntabilism live aside from at
house parties is scratching a beat in time of one record
(faded in) to the rhythm of the playout tracks beats and
then letting it play so that there is no perceptible change
in beats.

Ah, didn't know about the bonus disc. I may end up getting
it in the new year then...

I have to admit I'm a big fan of qbert. He seems to have a
great sense of fun and really enjoys playing. I'm sure I've
mentioned before how much more fun it was to see Peter
Parker (of Fingathing) playing live as he was clearly having
the time of his life, enjoying every minute of it whilst
remianing very humble and that rubbed off on the crowd.

I was at the welsh DMC heats earlier this year and the
standard of entries was very high. Having not seen much
evidence of a scene round here I thought it might be a bit
embarrasing in terms of quality, but it ended up being
really good.

Ok get the 06D definately. you wont want the 05 ok.
Heres why: the 05 and 07 are almost the same, except that
the 07 is a more expensive and better 05. the 07 has better
eq, since they are mini faders and not knobs which are less
easy to flick into position.
The main point to note is the location of the cue section on
the 05/07. the 05 has the cue section too close to the
faders.fact. the 07 has it in a different more well thought
out area.fact. if you are investing in a quality mixer then
dont get the 05, save a bit more and get the 07. you wont
regret it at all. on the other hand, the 06 is thinner and
has a completely different character. the cue section and
the master controls are in the BEST position out of all. you
dont have the 05s stupid mic input which you dont need, and
its so slimline and simplified that it is almost a natural
thing using it. so in my expert*ahem* opinion, either get
the pmc06 SAMURAI or the pmc07 (non samurai). skip the
overpriced 07isp and the silly 05.when youre spending a
couple of hundred quid make the right decision first time.
good luck.

Cheers for the advice Dave. My main snag has been getting a
go on all the different models to "feel" which one suits me.
I've used a mix stick similair to the 06 (a mate's cheap
behringer one) and I think I prefer that to a wider
05/07style one for scratching. Like you say, when it's
£300+ you want to get it right first time.

I don't think I could afford even the normal 07 as at around
£500 it's too expensive for me at the moment. Hopefully the
06 Samurai will drop to around the £350 mark early next
year and I'll get that.
