WARPSAMP2 - Basic Flannel mixed by LFO

I got this yesterday as a free bonus for buying 2 warp
albums at my local FNAC shop (the french culture
supermarkets). I guess it's a promotional mix for the
incoming LFO album but unlike other warp samplers I had in
the past ( recently got one from the french Trax magazine in
their WARP special issue) this one has a proper WARP catalog
number. So what is WARPSAMP1 ? Is this available in other
countries (I guess so) - Is this rare ?

By the way I give you the tracklist:
01. Aphex Twin - Icct Hedral (Phillip Glass orchestration)
02. Autechre - Surripere
03. F.U.S.E. - Train Trac
04. Nightmares on Wax - Mind Eye
05. Polygon Window - Quoth
06. LFO - Love is the Message
07. LFO live in New York 1990
08. LFO - Mentok
09. Brothomstates - MDRMX
10. Boards of Canada - Happy Cycling
11. Squarepusher - Boneville Occident
12. Nightmares on Wax - Sal Bâtardes
13. Elecktroids - Midnight Drive

I did a nice ogg rip this afternoon - I'll share it on slsk
if you ask me gently :)

sweet kisses - strOOOMphY

np: stereolab - captain easychord

It also seems to tie in with the new release of his and he
also seems to be promoting his older stuff a bit too.

I read on the CD sleeve:

Basic Flannel Mixed by LFO
(the M-People Years)

*and in the bottom-right corner*

LFO
Nouvel Album (translation: New album)
SHEATH
22 septembre 2003
----
the date is written in french but everything else on the CD
is in english. There no "Do not sell / promotional product"
as in any regular promo release...
----
Now sharing on slsk (search for cat number or 'basic
Flannel'

WARPSAMP1 was the Advanced Listening Opportunity promo.

I wonder if WARPSAMP2 is only available in France. It seems
strange that the first one was advance album tracks and the
second is made up of older stuff.

Is it mixed by Mark Bell or just the normal versions of the
tracks?

It says 'mixed by LFO' so it's basically a Dj set. All the
tracks can be considered as 'warp classics' except for
surripere and the brothomstates one.

And memememememe! How do I get one without being; a) in
France? b) a record shop? or c) LFO?... since I'm none of
those things.

The LFO track I heard recently sounded pretty lame. I
actually think having heard 'Advance' the other day for the
first time in ages; that its not that great a record. I mean
'Tied Up' rocks big time but the rest seems very wishy washy
to me. I think LFO first record will always be a classic
though.

Got a spare you want to donate to a worthy cause? (ie, me)
For less than $20.

I'm hoping I'll get one with my Sheath pre-order or
something... but who knows... warpy freebies have been
sparse lately.

Just got done listening to this on my stereo and I must say
that this is a quality mix. Good use of songs varied
throughout, and surprisingly Bell seems to be a good DJ.
'Mdrmx' played at 45RPM is awesome.

yep, I got one. And I didn't have to spend £50 at warpmart
to get it either! With the amount I've already spent there
they should be sending me stuff by the skipfull.

I just got done listening to the original 'Midnight Drive'
by the Electroids and I must say that the mix that Makr Bell
used was excellent. Towards the end of the song Mark adds
like a wierd chime to the song that really adds to it.
Unlike the original where it's basically the same concept
throughout the whole 5:53.

A solid way to end the mix.
