 | I've been on an Autechre kick for about a month now. I haven't listened to anything BUT autechre.
In an effort to understand them better, I've listened to
every LP numerous times, and read pages and pages of ae
 feedback on this forum.

It seems that more than perhaps any other IDM artist, ae's
fanbase is incredibly divided between the best and worst
autechre. I have been searching high and low for a
consistent favourite, but it seems that BECAUSE autechre
consistently release near-perfect albums, the only variation
of a favourite album is that of personal taste.

With µ-ziq it's usually lunatic harness or tango.

With RDJ it's usually drukqs , ICBYD, and the SAWs.

 With BOC, it's usually MHTRTC.

WIth autechre, it is literally unpredictable.

I seem to like Amber, Tri-Rep, and LP5. What's your
 opinion?

 | Interestingly enough, it seems that autechre harbours a more love/hate relationship with respect to albums than some
 other popular IDM artists.

With artists like aphex twin and BOC it generally appears
that all the albums are excellent, and BOC fans prefer one
or two over the others (even though the others are still
 very good).

I've heard absolute extremism with autechre. I've heard
Tri-Rep called repetitive and borning, I've heard Incunabula
been called irrelevant, I've heard Confield called the
biggest pile of shit in electronic history.

Others revere those same albums, and its quite surprising
how incredibly different our points of view can be with any
given ae album. Perhaps there is much room for
 interpretation with each ae album?

 | I never thought it was mindless and repetitive... I thought it was quite good on first listen, but it lacked that
something special. And did so for a while, so I stopped
listening when I got Amber and LP5 (which I instantly
preferred). The one day I was feeling really shit, had a
cold, had been crying, I think... so I lay back in the bath
and put Tri Repetae on, of all albums, and it just really
clicked. It suddenly had this gorgeous dark, cold
atmospheric feel to it. Now I love it.

 | as for preferences, my current faves are:
-LP5 - i like the way it's both melodic and cerebral. these
two things are usually hard to balance together, but Ae are
at their best here. as for songs order sequencing, it's
 perfect.

-Cichlisuite EP (Krib is one of the loveliest songs...sounds
 like an electronic love ballad)
 -Garbage EP (hmmmm...)

it's been mentioned alot, anyway i'll be bold enough to say
it again...imo, the main thing about autechre is that you
may like them or not, but they cannot be neglected. well, i
used to think that i'd NEVER end up listening to them, but
it was bound to happen... (never say never ;)
i really appreciate them. when i think what is best
describes their music, these words always come into my mind:
 irresistible and addictive...
 don't you think so?

 | ah, participating in yet another ae disagreement thread.
after confield (i liked two tracks, the first and "uviol")
and gantz graf (more interesting than listenable) i'm not
buying any more new ae. there's just too much more
interesting and pleasing music to discover and enjoy.

on another controversy, i've had tri repetae for eight years
now, and i've grown to believe that it is their weakest
effort. chiastic slide provided the real breakthrough in
style and technique. lp5 was the unparalleled refinement.

despite my opinion of confield, their live performance on
the subsequent tour was absolutely stunning, one of the most
fascinating and overwhelming performances i've ever
 witnessed.

 | I like Autechre but soem of their tracks just seem to be too much like "Hey let's do something that's never been done
before, somethnig WEIRD" which I sposed is one of the mian
underlying concepts of IDM, rather than "hey let's make a
tune that stomps/has lots of emotion"

People will disagree with me, but it's just how I feel.

And yeah if you don't liek Autechre you WILL get people just
dismissing your taste as "not understanding". It happens.

 | i know i've said this before chiastic slide is my favorite of their work... and i think that tri Repetae is my
least favorite...... after thinking lp5 was the greatest
albumn of all time.... now i think it's not as great as i
 used to...

chiastic slide and confield are the two most solid works...
