Best Night Ever

offline Refund from Melbourne (Australia) on 2003-08-15 18:43 [#00824087]

my day started off with work, and plenty of it, lifting
120kg wall panels up to the fifth floor of the coles myer
building in parramatta, and then after lunch I went into the
city and installed another 6 panels on the 35th floor of an
office building in sydney,

afternoon came (4:00pm), and I got paid ($612 for 4 days
work!) I rang jason (manifestevil) with whom I had planned
to spend the night with, he told me that he wouldn't be in
until around 10, so I had to find something to do in the
meantime.

I went into newtown to visit an old friend of mine by the
name of Ra, in order to fill in the time I had to wait,

9:30 came, I said my goodbyes, and departed by bus to go
into the city, and by 10:00pm I had met up with jason and
shelly and was inside the club, we talked for an hour or so,
and I briefly met up with plenty of other people, (but I've
forgotton all their names now :P), the music was better than
average, some nice chill out electronica and breaks, but
noghting special, and then jason says to me "these guys
coming on now, I'm trying to get them to play at the
warehouse gigs i set up" jason immmediately noticed that
they had new gear to play with, and I just braced myself for
the ride,

for the next 1-2 hours, I heard some of the most frenzied
drill and bass I've ever heard in my life, "sub bass snarl"
as they called themselves, played an awesome set of simple
dub and electro with complexly layered drum n bass
overlapping the top seamlessly, the dreadlock toting "guy
behind the desk" was fiddling with knobs like a motherfucker
and truly bringing the tracks to life, I've never seen a set
of hands move at such lightning speed with the precision and
accuracy that this guy was doing, you could tell it was all
"on the spot",.. and it was all the better for it, and his
partner was groovin around all the same, I almost cried when
the set finished.

big hands out to jason for bringin me there, and shell for
shouting me drinks all night,

Matt/Refund

it was great, it was a real classy venue, the sound system
was the right size for the room, it was loud, but clear, and
everyone was up and dancing around, having a good time, got
some great vibes from the place.

California.

just raves with idiots from time to time.

around here either, I was shocked to be listening to it at
all, like you said, mainly just shitty raves..

*death becomes me as well while we're at it*

....

*Not 'at it' as in doing it, just while we're talking about
death and whatnot*

I want to hear them again too,

if jason has them playing at the warehouse party, and I have
my minidisc player by then, I'll hook it straight into the
line out and get some recordings.
