How good is this fucking film? It's a bloody masterpiece.
You can take all the Donnie Darkos in the world and shove
them right up your arse and the Matrix Reloaded to follow if
you disagree. So there.

yes a good movie. doesnt have anything to do with donnie
darkos and matrices reloaded yes: it's a completely
different genre. its about youth that doesnt know what to do
only now in a brazilian slum, like la haine only cooler. its
a very well known theme

i'm just saying that as a movie it kicks all that
disappointing shit that i've watched out of the water
completely.

i'm saying that if you've visited a few film festival you
see that independent films can look quite the same too: city
of god was exciting to watch though

Saw it for the second time the other night. Along with Dirty
Pretty Things it's my film of the year.

Its THE film for Guardian readers like me and bill hicks.

Just saw it last night (rented). I refused to go to the
cinema to see it after it got a mediocre response from the
Newsnight Review crew. Not the best decision I've ever made,
because City of God is actually a very good film.

But I did enjoy Donnie Darko alot too. Oh, and I am an avid
Guardianista

Worth getting the DVD?

I didn't get to enjoy the extras since I don't have the
remote control to the DVD player. But the picture was good
and, as discussed, the film is fairly excellent.

great flick........ the direction was top class as well and
there was never a sense of gratuitiousness with all those
guns.......... no glamourinsing, just raw street life...
excellent.

One to look out for.

Last vid I saw was Dogtown and Z Boys and I was disappointed
by it to be honest, too cheesy and full of "we changed the
world" type stuff. Good footage though.

Superb film. I thought it was so well made and there was so
much thought put into the film. Must watch it again some
time.

I was surprised at how much Dogtown and Z Boys avoided that
actually. Maybe our expectations were different.

There was one guy who was a real dick though; all "we were
sooooooo ker-azee" .

i don't know if i'm giving it extra kudos because it is a
foreign film. Some of the plot lines were quite predictable.
You knew lil dice was going to be a bad-ass, you knew the
cool dealer(can't remember his name) was going to get killed
and you knew the runts would come out on top. That being
said, I'm sick of all these films with twists and double
twists and all that shit. It's time for cinema to get back
to some good straight storytelling.

I'm more of a daily record reader, myself. The grauniad is a
bit too difficult to read on public transport. If they made
it tabloid shaped, i might be interested.

I see your point. But it was largely based on real life
events and you can't argue with that can you?

Daily Record eh? I assume that's a local rag. I see what you
mean though. The broadsheets are a bloody pain in the arse
on the bus. But while travelling on public transport I like
to read the Sun. It helps me slip in amongst the lower
orders. I'd fear for a punch in the face if I read anything
else.

I also thought Dogtown and Z Boys was up it's own arse. The
best part was at the beginning when they were surfing near
that old delapidated amusement park, what a bunch of
nutcases!
