the joys of ebay

offline bob from Nottingham (United Kingdom) on 2003-07-22 16:50 [#00790086]

since i signed up to ebay a few months ago, i have bought
the following:

seefeel-time to find me
boc kaleidoscope + geogaddi
afx hangable autobulb 1
luke vibert - big soup
aphex twin - on ep

and about eight other rarities that i cannot remember right
now.

i think its great finding these long sought after records so
easily, instead of having to dig for them. but at the same
time, it cheapens the term " record collector " because you
don't spend forever looking for that ultra rare record
anymore. it has its good side and bad side, wouldn't you
agree? has anyone else had any good stuff of ebay lately???

I think my latest best buy has been the wonderful J9i Pic
Disc. I love eBay. But you're right about changing the term
record collector.

i love it and hate it. when you are trying to save up for
something, it makes it so hard cos of all the stuff on there
for sale.

I stopped buying from ebay.

the prizes tend to get insanely high.

i dont think so. i got geogaddi and the kaleidoscope for
£27, and the "on" ep for only six quid. hab1 was only 30,
which is pretty cheap for ebay.

i got my afx shirt and my first venetian snares ep on ebay!

it's really the only choice if you're looking for better IDM
here in the states... at least in texas, that is.

You're not kidding.

I bid on a disc at $97 which in retrospect was kind of
stupid - but I've been after it for years.

I was outbid at $98. That's a crazy amount of money for this
release.

i tend to "track" certain records for a number of weeks,
taking mental notes of how often they come up and how much
they go for. then i don't get ripped off (as much)

:)

yup. you somehow get caught up in the momentum. well, not
anymore.

just today I was thinking of sniping a bid on an original
"Alien" soundtrack cd, which was at $7.50 last time I looked
(that cd is OOP). so I had a look about 3 hours before the
end - it was over $30 dollars. FUCK OFF. :)

I just ask myself: "do I want to pay X amount of dollars for
this record?".

the answer mostly is: no. :)

i love spending too much on a recod, knowing full well that
it isn't really worth it.

I bought that for 50p the other week! Ceri was present and I
couldn't tell if he was shocked or disgusted or jealous.

bob: I'm sorry mate. What can I say?

Homer: Family meeting! Family meeting!
[the rest of the family runs into the dining room and
quickly takes their seats]
Homer: Okay, people, let's keep this short. We all want to
get home to our families.
[all laugh]
Homer: All right, first item: I lost our life savings in the
stock market. Now let's move on to the real issue: Lisa's
hogging of the maple syrup.
Lisa: Well, maybe if Mom didn't make such dry waffles.
There, I said it.
Marge: Well, maybe if you'd eat some meat you'd have a
natural lubricant.
[gasps and turns to Homer]
Marge: You lost all our money?
Homer: Point of order -- I didn't lose ALL the money. There
was enough left for this cowbell.
[rings it softly and the bell breaks apart in his hands]
Homer: Damn you, eBay!

haha, funny !

I have mainly bought Three Investigator Books on eBay myself
- once paid £30 for a first edition hardback from 1969.
That was my biggest purchase.

I just got The 7th guest from e-bay

I thought I could be clever and get it working on xp, but
I'm stupider than I thought ! So I'm gonna try it on my
laptop instead. Probably won't work on that either =o(
