quoted from Dark Horizons: "Terminator 3 & Alien 5: James Cameron recently talked with BBC1 and revealed he's very happy with how Terminator 3 ended up: "In one word : Great. There was a small part of me that hoped it wasn't good - but another part of me hope'd it succeeded. And it did. And I'm so glad it did. Jonathon's made a great movie. Arnold's in great form. I really like what he's done with it". If he had done it, would he have handled it differently: "Yes. That's only natural. I mightn't have structrued it the same, nor may I have ended it the same way - but coming in where he has, such a hard thing to do, and I give Jonathan points for it".
This isn't a man whose going to whitewash his opinion either, take for example his reaction to "Alien 3" - "Hated it. Simple as that. I hated what they did.... I couldn't stand Alien 3 - how they could just go in there and kill off all these great characters we introduced in aliens, and the correlation between mother and daughter. It stunk, but hopefully I'll get a chance to rectify all that". You mean the talk about him being tied to "Alien 5" is true? "To an extent. yes. We're looking at doing another one. Something similiar to what we did with Aliens. A bunch of great characters, and of course Sigourney. I've even discussed the possibility of putting him [Arnold Schwarzenegger] into the Alien movie". Thanks to 'Ryan'."

Yes I refrained from any comments but this looks like it's gonna be yet another big fuck-up off the Alien series. Can't believe he HATED Alien 3 for those reasons. I just thought it was brilliant to kill all the characters from "aliens" right after surviving all that. To me Alien and Terminator are dead now. Fek it.

Arnold has experience dealing with aliens (predator, which was a good flick). so him in ALIEN 5 would be intresting to see, only if directed by James Cameron.

Oh please. I read this too on Dark Horizons and I was like "pffff." Cameron hasn't directed a film - aside from that ghastly 3D documentary - since 'Titanic'. The man's cred is long gone, he's gonna come back with Alien 5 after like 7, 8 years and make a killer movie? The word 'St Anger' springs to mind.
Ridley Scott was always superior.

I still haven't seen Black Hawk Down, I should remedy that fact asap. Fact is the first Alien movie is better than the sequel, all these zealots who claim otherwise should shut up. There has NEVER been a sequel superior to the original, and I include the Godfather in that.
Cameron can kiss my arse, way to go creating a superb movie (Terminator) and diluting it ridiculously with a lousy sequel. I'm not surprised he didn't direct T3, Arnie would probably be tie-dye t-shirts and talking about saving the whales for the whole movie.

black hawk down is a fun movie though. pretty typical war action flick. nothing special.
Camron's Titanic, though structurally and thematically unoriginal and ultimately lame was still an impressive feat from a purely directorial standpoint.

i'd say alien and aliens are totally different kinds of movies. alien is more of a sci-fi horror film while aliens is an action suspense shooter. they are both excellent in their own respects without really competing for dominance in a single genre.
Alien 3 follows Aliens theme of having a group of people who are just totally fucked. though they are even more fucked in Alien 3 as they have no weapons and no hair. I think the 'no weapons' aspect is what make this a largely hated episode in the series.
I like it because it has the sense of Panic present in all the films except the 4th. and it has one of my favorite scenes from any of the movies, where Charles S. Dutton is giving his eulogy for the deceased that also serves as narration for the dog-birthing-alien scene.
actually, i'm interested in why many people don't like alien 3 specifically. Is it because they killed off the good characters from Aliens? Lack of explosions? Minimal character development of the prisoners? Just curious.

I thought Alien 3 was terrific except for the ending. The long maze chase was a yawner and then Paul Reiser shows up to make his Reiser facial expressions and speak his Reiser-words. Yuck.
I liked the parallel of sexuality and the alien as an aids allegory, and Ripley upsetting the delicate balance of the colony with her femaleness and the taint of the alien.
I loved the shot of a bloody scalpel tainting a beaker of water.

"There has NEVER been a sequel superior to the original,
and I include the Godfather in that."
k, there are a few exeptions; Lethal Weapon got better and better all the time. Lethal Weapon 4 is my favorite of the bunch. Not in the least thanks to Jet Li's best performance ever, Joe Pecsi and Chris Rock.
I also think T2 was better than 1. I honest to God wouldn't be able to make a choice for better Alien movie when it comes to Alien or Aliens. I totally love Alien for it's claustrophobic, stylish and dark vision with excellent characters... but wait all these elements are present in Aliens as well. I remember being a nervous wreck when they were entering those empty hallways using those devices with the eerie sound.
And when one of the guys went to check the roof and they were crawling all over the place... classic pure class. Never mind the scene where she was sleeping with Newt under the bed and the facehugger entered the room, scary stuff. Ripley's character was brilliantly developed, and cameron again showed in T2 how to make a totally believable female fighter that could easily keep up with the men, plus I love the whole doomsday atmosphere in T2.
I could never pick a winner if i had to choose between Alien or Aliens, both are amazing pieces of work that can never be surpassed, they don't contend with each other, they supplement each other so it's utter bullshit to claim on superior to another.
Btw Cameron hasn't exactly been doin nothing all that time; think Dark Angel and expedition Bismarck? Even so, can't blame him for staying away for so long, if only it were to get the heat from all the fucking naysayers off his back.

evil dead 2 is superior to evil dead 1
toystory 2 gives toystory 1 a good run for it's money.
i prefer Empire Strikes Back to Star Wars: A New Hope
I enjoyed X2 more than X-men
I have to say also that Desperado was just slightly better than El Mariachi if only for the flashier gun play and nicer boobs. even though El Mariachi is fucking great considering it only took 2000 dollars or something to make.
so i would disagree that there has never been a sequal better than the original.
