Smojphace theory

i just read at watmm.com that an image has been decoded
from a track from 2 Remixes by AFX.

maybe those two noise tracks on Smojphace that, reportedly,
are so shitty (haven't heard them myself) can be manipulated
into something better!

get to work, guys!

yeah somebody got to encode this awful noise, I think it is
a nude pic of Richard

heres a little conversation about that first MEN 1 release I
had with a sorry trainspotter...

John "The Infamous IDM Trainspotter": I actually liked the
third track on that first MEN release, u know the one with
those acid remixes, its kinda sounding like beautiful modem
noise, nobody but Aphex Twin can make modem noise sound that
beautiful.

Me: Yuck, that fucking noise sucks.

John "The Infamous IDM Trainspotter": Nah, its just taste
man, u got to listen to Satanstornade, now thats some
beautiful noise too man!!

Me: The only "noise" I actually liked is Tim Heckers stuff
but thats not really noise I rather call that ambient.

John "The Infamous IDM Trainspotter": U dont get it, u
should here the noise on the latest AFX release its called
smojphace, some really beautiful noise right there..

Me: Hey John, u know what that third track on MEN 1 really
was??

John "The Infamous IDM Trainspotter": uhm, YEAH some dope
noise-music made buy a genius, dude.

Me: uhm NO, its was just an image that has been
decoded...dick face.

John "The Infamous IDM Trainspotter": Oops...im gonna get a
life......BYE.

what do u mean by trainspotter? has this term adopted a new
connotation that describes an obsessive completist/collector
of an artist's music?

Like i saw RDJ face when i run a spectogram over the wav
file of windowlicker. Whats that simple little program
called,? it allows you to make sound out of an image and
vica versa? Now where did i put my dust?

smojophace fuckin sucked, who cares if you can decode it
into something else better? ofcourse you can, anything would
be better than this garbage, besides, if he made it with the
intent of people being able to do that, or rather almost
having to, to enjoy it, would be rather stupid

lmao at all the people who "liked" tracks 2 and 3 on
smojphace. seems they are just images encoded into sound.

i think i shall encode some dodgy jpgs and release a "noise"
album.

matter.

who the fuck cares?
it's just sine waves that my brain likes

jeezous christ

you all act like tards sometimes.

i like the 2nd track best.

dont care for the 3rd.

but comon,

if we like it, we must be fucking 'trainspotters'? are you
fucking KIDDING ME?

get the fuck off my shit, little bitch
dont tell me what i like and what i dont like

and you sure as hell better not tell me i cant like how a
song sounds like , whether it's an image or not.

This "theory" probably comes from a number of sources - the
fact that 'equation' had a hidden face; that a very funny
fake was posted on watmm involving the noise tracks and a
C64; and that some people have to justify this release by
saying it's a joke. I don't like the noise tracks, I do like
the remix. Some people obviously do like em, so leave em
alone. You sound like those people who laugh at IDM and
listen to Justin Timberlake.

offline Loogie from Oxford (United Kingdom) on 2003-07-07 05:45 [#00769177]

i just think it's obvious that rdj takes the piss quite
often and so many people just go along with.

so when his next album is actually a picture book with
graphical spectrograms of what the tracks sounded like are
you all gonna buy and say it's wonderfull?

for me, listening to a grahical image has no musical value
whasoever.

just do like me don't listen to it, and consider the ep
finished after the two mixes
then one day you'll maybe sample it, mix it or anything and
everything will be in it's right place...

But that SSTV thing is bull shit. While it is true that
SSTV operates between about 1200Hz and 2300Hz it would have
been impossible to get anythng from an MP3 file as the codec
simply throws away any sound that it perceives as being
inaudible to humans (for example if there is a sound a 1KHz
and another one at 1.1KHz but the 1.1KHz sound is just 20db
lower then it excludes that sound altogother.) So while MP3
is fine for human hearing it does not work for analogue data
transmission and if it did work the picture wouldn't be as
clear as the one he claimed to get.
