I slept.
For years people have been recommending them to me and I never put forth the effort to listen to them.
Finally, yesterday I was on an FTP site with a bunch of their albums so I checked it out and I love it!
I can't define what it is that makes it work for me, because if I were to describe the sound to someone else it would sound like something I would hate..
Any other fans around?

There were a few fans around when someone asked this question a few weeks ago. Glad you're on board. :-)
Their albums have gotten the remaster treatment and it was the opinion of a pitchfork reviewer that the sound mix was totally botched. I haven't compared the old and new mixes but it would be a shame if that were true.

treasure and head over heels are amazing, love the cocteau twins. I also like Dead Can Dance who were on the same label, i reccomend you try listening to their stuff too. Lisa Gerrard has one of the most amazing voices.

absolutely a few years ago i was almost obsessively collecting anything by Cocteau Twins i could get my hands on. I love it all. never heard a cocteau twins album i didn't like.
my favorite albums are: Blue Bell Knoll Heaven or Las Vegas Twinlights (ep accoustic) Vicotrialand.
Elizibeth Fraiser's voice is so beautiful.

*bump, instead of creating a new topic*
I love this band. beautiful melodies. she's got one of most beautiful voices, too. I can't hear what she's singing about tho, but it doesnt matter.
I listened to 'the pink opaque' on the bus on my way home. the songs are so simple, but somehow they catch my attention. check them out, if you haven't already!

I absolutely love Cocteau Twins. I was quite fanatical about them in college, buying almost their entire discography which is quite extensive.
Saw them live once as well. Seefeel was playing along with them. it was fantastic.

I discovered the twins by buying 'heaven or las vegas' on vinyl, I had only heard the name and the record was cheap, so I bought it.
the funny thing is, when I first listened to it, I had forgotten to switch the rpm on my vinyl player, so I played it on 45rpm instead of 33... it sounded like a fucked up disney-record, but I liked it!

The girl singing is a sample from the twins but what is the name of the track?

A persistent rumor but apparently it's not true.
If you figure the age of those tracks - it's not likely that Liz Frasier would donate a vocal to an unknown artist like RDJ.

Anything after their first record is pretty great. If you like that 'hits' album you'll probably want to get the rest of their albums!
So maybe it wasn't a great choice!

well, all the other real albums were almost twice the price, and that best of-cd was in two discs, so I don't think I will regret it... and if it makes me want to buy all the other albums, it must have been a great choice!

thats funny about wether Aphex sampled Liz Fraser on Xtal cos i've just been reading a long thread on the Cocteau Twins forum about wether or not Mark Clifford sampled the same Ms.Fraser on the track 'Here' on the first Disjecta release.kind of makes more sense since Mark remixed the Cocteau Twins for the 'Otherness' EP - one of the best examples of remixing i ever heard btw.
