go to the 'loophole' at radiohead.com for details...which
roughly involves about 50 or so downloadable radiohead
samples/loop noises to be mixed however one wants...to be
submitted to radiohead who will pick their favorites. im
pumpt! maybe they saw this remix contest and took note?

maybe Phobiazero is Thom York, and did the Autechre re-mix
contest as a test, to see how many pukes would be
involved....or not..

sounds great....do it !!!

(sorry to be off topic.....
WHERE THERE ANY SINGLES RELEASED FOR KID-A OR AMNESIAC ?)

Why have they done that stupid fucking page...it would have
been easier if they zipped the loops up so we could download
them...it would save bandwidth too.

I think I have just downloaded all the samples and there are
no where near the 80 odd it was saying there should be.

This is bullshit...no fucking Thom Yorke vocal
samples...that is bullshit...what is the point of remixing
Radiohead without his voice.

The samples aren't even that good...I think I will give this
one a miss.

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-06-24 18:42 [#00755687]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

OK maybe I went over the top there :D

I am still gutted there are no proper vocal samples, plus I
suppose they are catering to the wider market...but you just
jet the feeling listening to the samples that they have done
it so people can just sequence them without any manipulation
into tracks...Sort of like the Gescom minidisc...but of a
shame really.

i agree
i was anticipating vocals a lot

but why were there doubles of some samples

hah radioohead is strange

thom yorke is on xltronic?
impossible. thom yorke is a celestial being.

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-06-24 18:57 [#00755703]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

The doubles are annoying, and the fact that most of the
samples are already heavily processed is a bit of a downer
too :(

I agree - quite useless samples - but I guess that makes the
challenge even bigger!

Points: 2523 Status: Lurker

yeah, i counted only 63 samples....
sample "25" was on there twice.....
..and some of the samples are pretty cheap, but ill give it
a go....! :)

offline theo himself from +- on 2003-06-24 23:13 [#00755894]

I had great ideas for backdrifting.. specifically the
"nothing weeee could doooOOoooo" part.. ah well..

the samples offered only allow for the recreation of the
beginning of 'where bluebirds fly' and like filtered breaks
of 'myxamatosis' and other shit you could've easily lifted
from the cds you already own... I dont know about this

offline Skink from A cesspool in eden on 2003-06-25 01:36 [#00755955]

The samples do seem to be lame.

offline ecnadniarb on 2003-06-25 07:55 [#00756243]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

I think I will deffo give this competition a miss, I
listened to the samples again and they just aren't worth
doing anything with, and I woudl assume due to the pretty
strict wording on the acceptance form that they wouldn't
even be happy with us sampling off another one of their
tracks.

They probably can't cope with the number of requests that
are being made on the server....it does work, it just takes
it's time.

Got them in time yesterday, although the server was already
slow. I agree that the samples aren't that good - I haven't
heard HTTT yet (that's where those samples come from, I
assume), but these sound like snippets of already complete
songs, such as anybody could make just by ripping the
tracks. It's going to be hard to do something decent with
them without adding lots of new material.

offline Dinosaur from United Kingdom on 2003-06-25 11:47 [#00756555]

i like the samples...
gonna make some really fkked synths outta them. This will
be fun indeed.
Great idea for them to do this.

Does ANYONE know if we can submit more than one track?
There was nothing about this in the instructions when I
visited a few nights ago?

I don't even see how it is a competition...they haven't got
any prize other than they will listen to them and put some
of them up on the site for people to download...I mean if
J-HOK can give £600 as a first prize surely Radiohead could
have came up with something.

well, it's publicity for you. I'm sure they get millions of
hits to that site, plus they might like some enough to put
it out. you never know. I agree the tho somewhat, the HOK
competiton had a nice twist with the money... and the vinyl
before.
