I was wondering if anyone else attended the Incredible Warp
Lighthouse Party, or any other such perfect evenings

The last ATP sounds like the perfect gig/festival to me.
Haven't been at any of them, though

Rephlex Disco Assault System Dead Granny gig Dublin, 2001

Had to be seen to be believed
- Cyclob, RDJ, Mike Dred, Maddog Wallace
- A big braindacne party on-stage
- RDJ played tons of squarepusher
- Cylob dressed up as a banana the whole time
- Japanese schoolfgirls with pigtails on stage
THE WAY IT OUGHT TO BE

Would've loved to be there... I'd murder to see Coil alone,
never mind everyone else!

there were japanese schoolgirls at the lighthouse party as
well... with cool inflatable chairs!

i went to the lighthouse party. i cant agree that it was the
best gig ever im afraid. the set-up was a bit shit, ie no
cloakroom, stupidly strict secuirty and bad organisation in
the main room. the line-up though was incredible. the only
big warp person not there was squarepusher if i remember
correctly!

bogdan was the hightlight for me, by a long way. afx realy
put a downer on things with his shit set at the end, he
could have blown everyone away with an amzing set but chose
to annoy lots of people with noise and a set which didnt get
going.

but thats my opinion

I loved Richards set... met him afterwards when he was being
hassled by security... did you see that?

It was quite badly organised though, remember they sent out
an apology mail the next day?

i agree and more. it was freezing fucking cold...and the bar
ran out of beer at 12.30.......

Yeah, and all they had at the bar was shitloads of Red
Stripe... weird

my favourite gigs (hard to pick just one) are:

the warp 10th birthday show with boc, ae, mira calix,
[]pusher and afx (amazing line up and mental strobes)

rephresh at the end with afx, ovuca and i dont remember who
else. total jungle madness, great club aswell.

nesh party at the electrowerkz, one of the last ones they
held i think, again with afx and ovuca and mira calix
playing quality jungle till 6am.

exactly... I was very dissapointed with BOC... Push Button
Objects/Prefuse73 were highlights... and meeting Rich and
Bjork

ScenarioDr: All the Nesh and Refresh nights I went to were
sick! Especially Luke Vibert/AFX special appearances

didnt see afx getting hassled. did see bjork wondering
around though. my friend who is a massive bjork fan tried to
speak to her but bjork just ignored her. bit rude i think
but in a way you cant blame her.

Thats strange about Bjork... she was very nice to me and
didn't have any bodyguards or anything... she looked amazing
dancing like a lunatic to Andrea Parkers set!

i only went to one nesh, it was superb though, wish i had
gone to more. me and my mate were a lil bit, shall we say
worse for wear, and ceephax saw us and tried to do our heads
in, he started sayin something about going to see a scenario
doctor to help him sort out the scenario etc etc (hence my
board name!!) me and my mate walked off a lil confused!

I went to, i think four of the rephresh nights, the first
one was the best, i enjoyed them all though!

Sound sweet... my top Refresh moment would be spending an
entire evening trying to pluck up the courage to talk to AFX
who was standing next to me all night! He wasn't sposed to
play, but dropped one track really late that tore the shit
out of everything else all night

offline ScenarioDr on 2003-06-05 06:14 [#00727797]

at the first rephresh (where he was playing, one of the best
sets i've seen by him) he was talkin to the dj by that lil
dj box in the middle of the main room. we had just drunk a
bottle of absinth between us and were a lil bit trashed. my
mate mike went up to him and tried to buy him a drink from
the bar, but wot he thought was the bar was actualy the dj
box, both afx and the dj looked quite confused! we left him
alone after that!

I had a really similar experience with Luke Vibert... I was
chatting to him and offered to buy him a drink... so we went
to the bar, he gave me a fist full of coins, and then when I
placed my order, the bar had just closed! We kinda ran out
of shit to talk about after that, and he went somewhere else
with Howie B!

offline ScenarioDr on 2003-06-05 06:32 [#00727805]

never spoken to luke vibert, but my friend has and said he
was a realy to bloke, realy friendly. i've been to quite a
few things where afx has been there and hasnt been playing
and he gets constant hassle, must be a bit annoying i think,
but at least he doesnt seem to go into vip areas that much,
guess he likes the attention!

i wish warp and rephlex would start up regular nights again,
they were sweet. sayin that, im up in glasgow at the moment,
so its a way to travel! not as far as south africa i guess
;)

How do you think I feel mate, I'm all the way in South
Africa, and it costs shitloads to go on London excursions.

Luke was nice though... very friendly... very stoned!

the Hackney Warp Rave 2001 was fucking sweet too. Vibert and
RDJ dj´d togther for hours ripping it up with jungle and
absolutely crazy realtime MC sampling. K Rock was the Mc and
he fucking didn´t know what was going on with his voice!

I just missed that bya couple of days... Who's that mad
little short dude that's always with AFX? Any idea? He looks
like a mini-afx, but is a totally cool guy.

yeah, i went to that one aswell! yet another great night!

was very impressed by apc, repuhreshing to see some actual
"live" performance. plaid, as always were realy good,
despite the fact they had technical problems. mark bell also
was very good.

but yeah, the best part of the night was afx & luke vibert!
you realy cant beat a bit of jungle!

the little dude whos always with afx is k-rock.

first time was some years ago)

Yep.. Mark Bell was cool too.

Ovuca was absolutely perfect as an opener for the Rephlex
tour here last year....... chilled beats before Bogdans
drunken craziness and RDJ´s guaranteed mayhem

i've seen him as both aswell, good aint he? he doesnt seem
to play anything off his albums. at dedbeat this year he
played a realy good set, not very danceable but amazing to
listen to, constanly mutating.

yes i really enjoyed him.. he is live here on saturday
again.. really hypnotising.

oh i forgot that i saw brothomstates and jimi tenor as well
but they didn't rock too much

you remember him playing 'Take on me' by AHA?

this year Nils Peter Malvar and ATP of course were the
highlights

shame :( yeah, they're european tours seem a lil few and far
between aswell. do you get good local braindance though?

sadly i've missed some good gigs since being up in glasgow,
eg squarepusher last friday which all me mates went to.

i saw some info on that SP gig at WATMM.
He played bass over "dinotane", palyed a Redhotcar-like but
"better" tune ANd "Journey to Redham"... yay!

I saw him last year here. Encored with "Cmon my selector"
after stretching out every inch of "my fucking sound"...
nuff said!

there is no local braindance here, just some scattered
gigs.. more electro/techno/ambient stuff

psytrance and progressive house are the thing up here at the
moment

"psytrance and progressive house" ?sounds nasty, you have my
sympathy :)

but hey, you got astrobotnia on saturday so it aint all
bad!

Key: yeah my mates told me he broke out the bass guitar,
I've yet to witness that, heres hoping for glasto!

oh no, those days are behind me! i thought it was about time
i payed for a ticket!

sadly a lot of the warp stuff clashes with radiohead, but
squarepusher only clashes with moby...hmmm tuff choice..

sonar is looking very cool this year though, much better
than last year when i went. on one of the nights you have
bjork followed by mark bell followed by afx, now that is a
sweet line-up, and hellfish too!

sounds like he plays a lot there though?!

haha, one of my female friends always swoons over him when
she sees him, think he wants to have his babies!! he seems
like a very quiet character from what i have seen though,
hanging around at the edges of gigs.

dedbeat 2 was brilliant especially bogdan and rdj's dj set.

i'm hoping sonar will be the best ever though. only a week
to go now.

i'm sure you can get astrobotnia 1 off warpmart. its
definately still around in the shops anyway

the afternoon yeah?

the other two dedbeats were great aswell, i think this years
was the best so far imo. much better venue and the inclusion
of the Mu gang was a very good idea! heres looking forward
to dedbeat 4!
