So when I started out listening to music (i men REALLY
listening), it was on the old records of deftones, korn,
beastie boys and stuff like that. Then came this period were
I turned to more ruff music like Type O Negative, Slipknot,
Glassjaw, Vision of Disorder and other gothic and hardcore
bands. Then I ran into this flipmode, because while I was
working on making music by myself I discovered Aphex. I
became obsessed and swallowed by this (then) untouched world
called IDM.
Some time went by with IDM and I learned about Boars of
Canada and Autechre etc. But meanwhile I had small interest
in rock music and metal. I listened to some stuff here and
there, but nothing really touched me. Some bands reached a
good status with me like Queens of the Stone Age, Tool and
Faith No More, but the rest never was balls thrown in the
air, but never touched the ground.
Then after almost 2 years of this "phase", I rediscover
hardcore-punk through bands like Rejected and again
Glassjaw. The new Deftones album also seems to touch some
nostalgic feeling which reminds me of my life 3-4 years
back.
Maybe I'm turning again - a new flipmode - or maybe I'm just
living my life again after the breakup with my girlfriend -
I really can't say. But oddly enough I feel happy when NOT
listening to IDM right now :)

man,
i just listen to anything and everything that sounds good to
me. i try to keep a good variety; johnny cash to four tet
to radiohead to ween to the pixies all in one day.

i feel that if you mix it up a lot, you stay more objective,
you keep a better perspective on what is good music rather
than what is a good genre.

especially now that it is so easy to get music to listen to
off of the internet, i think it's better to just listen to
everything and pick my favorites.

but, thats just me. do what makes you happy. that should be
the most important thing eh?

I used to listen to metal a lot, later on I moved to
Hardcore-punk. And even later I kinda got into IDM.

Now, everything comes in periods. There are days, or even
weeks, that I don't listen to any electronic music, and
there are weeks that no guitar enters my ears. I like it
this way actually. I just happen to listen to a larger
variety of music than ever before. The only downside is that
it's impossible to keep up with al genres. It's a pity,
because I might miss a lot of the good stuff, but what am I
gonna do about it?

I know what you mean about the deftones, I just got the new
one(I havent bought a major label rock cd for quite some and
it does bring back memories of when I used to like deftones
much more but...I relaly dont think the new disc is that
good, I probably only like 4 or 5 tracks on the whole disc,
its pretty weak I think(white pony is the best still i
think, I cant see them topping it)
