isn't that viewpoint a tad offensive to many composers of
electronic music?

I believe it immoral to sell music to advertising.
real music is an expression of soul - so when you're
busy pimping your music to some soulless fuck who just wants
it because it adds coolness to his advertising campaign, you
are also pimping your soul - now this does not apply to
people who make music by numbers - as we see in countless
adverts and in the charts &tc - but I never counted richard
d james as being one of those 'by-numbers' types; I always
thought his music possessed depth of character and soul.

Another reason I have against it is because by pimping your
music to these advertisers, you're entering their world -
that world which is corrupt, exploitative and oppressive -
the world which wants people in pigeon-holes, wants to
manipulate people's thoughts and desires - advertisement
is a form of brainwashing - that's not extreme
leftist talk - that's a psychological fact - they are there
to manipulate people's thoughts, their desires, their
self-esteem - they are malignant designs which are part of
the system of oppression. Now, you may not care about this,
so you may discount this - but I DO care about this, so I
count it very strongly in my opposition to selling your
music for a few dollars.

that's all for now - I doubt you'll be swayed, but now you
know two reasons why I hate it when musicians I respected
decide to trade their music for the teets of mammon.

the danger of giving dictionary definitions for things like
this is their vagueness - see if you can discover what
Existentialism is all about by reading the dictionary
definition.

prosperity = evil

especially with corporations and gov't. i've definately
fell victim to that mentality myself. when somebody is the
little guy everybody loves 'em... when they grow, hit it
big, and/or start making the big bucks, they become evil.

when you find the little band that nobody's heard of you
feel like a pioneer, they're your favorite band, then when
more and more people stumble onto them, and they get popular
people start to resent them for it. 1st video on MTV and
90% of their original fan base is alienated. reguardless of
whether thier musical quality has been altered at all... to
your ears it has been tainted by the populace.

root for the underdog, snipe the big cheese.

*disclaimer* 'you', as used above, is meant to be
taken as the indefinate 'we' our 'one'.

fortunately, I was never a sucker for hating a group just
because they became popular - something which elusive
appeared to blame me of earlier.

statement about people as a whole. :)

i didn't even see your responses til' after i posted. you
seem like a level headed guy to me.

'advertisement is brainwashing'
> I agree.

I also agree that music can be an expression of ones soul.

I just find it hard to believe that Richard sat down at his
computer one day and said "I'm gonna pour my heart and soul
into the most beautiful piece of music right now, and I'll
name it 'Windowlicker' (meaning retard)".

Was Richard expressing his soul in the video when he was
mimicking ejaculation with a chapagne bottle? Or was it
toward the begining when he was rubbing the umbrella on his
genitals? What I'm trying to say is that if you take this
video and used it as an extention of the song, then again,
you see shock, humor and disposability..

I digress.. I see where you are coming from. But if it were
me, if I were to see 1.5k being waved in front of my face, I
might think of compromising some of my values.

Here.

Meh, it's not a fantastic advert. The recent Honda one
featuring car parts setting others in motion in a
domino-style chain reaction was far better, even if it did
rip off Der Lauf Der Dinge.

my values for money - ever.

This is why I have little to no values. Being American, I'm
forced to compromis my values everyminute of my life so I
can live.. I found it best to discard these values... they
slow you down and it's impossible to make large amounts of
money.

well I'm not money-oriented - I have no desire to acquire
monetary riches. I'm prepared and quite willing to be poor
the rest of my life.

:P my hair is really bad to manage because I have about 4
crowns - I rarely let it grow much because it looks so
horrible (see picture). Normally I just have it shaved
short. And now you know something more about me, praise
allah! :D

if having principles and not selling out for money is full
of shit or madness, then I guess that's me. It's a shame
that a person gets called that these days. It's like being
called a weirdo for smiling at a stranger in the street and
saying 'hi'.

yes but we don't NEED 100K. millionaires don't NEED a
million dollars/pounds. In fact, we don't NEED money at all.
there are humans who live without money, so it is not a
NEED. money is a WANT

anyone else thibnk that the track doesn´t suit the advert
at all? That track is a sunshine, daytime, blueskies song..
as in the video and the MTV advert that used it when it was
released.... not the stark monotone images of cars and
graphics... doesn´t work in my opinion.

i dont think(lol) that windowlicker will help mercedes
selling more benz.
i hate mercedes, they are with a lot of weapon-making and
that sucks.

but i dont blame anyone for taking their money.
everybody has to make up his mind about whats right and
whats wrong;
if there is a need for status.
people know about commercials,
its their own fault if they watch em and get influenced.

im against commerce as well but then again i would take the
money.
you can do lots of good things with it.
think about that...

money isn't infinite - the money he got paid meant that an
equal amount was taken from somewhere else. The question is:
where? From some person struggling to make car-payments
perhaps? or maybe from some rich person who paid for his car
in cash? in which case, how did that person get that money?
You see, it's not so simple as just 'BMW give the money to
RDJ'; it goes back a lot further. Meditate upon that. when
wise men say 'money is the root of all evil', there's
something in it.

Yeah, that money was made by workers in Mercedes factories.
you think they live the lavish lifestyle that RDJ lives? Me
no think so.
