i don't read/collect comic books, but i think it's cool that
Todd McFarlane was born in Edmonton :) he used to own a part
of our hockey team, too.

there's really only 3 super hero characters i get into:
x-men, spidey and batman. everything else can disappear, as
far as im concerned. i LOVE stuff like fantagraphics comix.
richard sala, charles burns, clowes, etc...

i'm not really a fan, but 6 years ago i made some of my own
comics.

however, i have a particularly intriguing comic book titled
The Cartoon History of the Universe by Larry Gonick. the
book is just as the title implies. it's even been credited
by Terry Jones of Monty Python and Carl Sagan.

another piece i'm interested in is the Akira manga. i heard
the movie doesn't compare. i should probably run out and buy
it sometime this summer.

akira manga is MUCH better than the anime - the anime ends
about half way through the manga, there's so much more to
the story!!

Oh double snap! I have a bunch Ren&Stimpy comics too. One of
my favourites is the special edition one where you cut out
parts of the comic - there was a few pages where you can cut
out these strips of Ren's life and tape them together, it
was so dark+sad, yet so funny at the same time.

I have no interest in american comics.. . I love manga.. .
the first ghost in the shell is brilliant.. . and the second
one is blindingly amazing (so far.. . only up to issue 4).
..

havent read akira yet.. . but I plan on it seeing as the
movie is about the best thing in the universe.. . I cant see
the manga beating the anime though.. . if only because Ive
been watching it since I was 12.. . otomo wrote and directed
it so its got to be the best translation from manga to anime
that could ever be done. ..

Also trying to collect Battle Angel Alita, though they seem
quite rare now.

I really like the format, the way pictures and text is
combined, of the comicbook... really do. But I rarely read
them these days.
But when I do read them, I do enjoy it a lot.

waiting for next 3x3 Eyes (action shônen manga) and Love
Hina (best mood-booster i know) to be released, and to get
the latest Brousaille (great comic book this one, very
poetic, about a teenager living beautiful things, like
whales found in a secret cave of a museum, or searching for
his cat all night, meeting unusual places and people on his
way to find his cat etc. - i don't know if it's translated
to other languages, it's not very well known)...

also been reading web comics lately (my avatar is Betty
Bunny from purple pussy - also following exploitation now
and tsunami ninjin, if you have other ones feel free to
share)

and people who only read manga because they think U.S. or
european comics are bad are weird. read some alan moore or
some indie comics out of the U.S. they're atleast on par
with the best japan has to offer.

totally agree with that, zaphod.

i'd like to write a comic once too but i don't know how to
draw ANYTHING, not even shoulders nor a nose so...

well i'm an art major so i guess it comes with the
territory. i do totally for shits and giggles though.
i'd say try writing one anyway. find a decent tutorial
(there are tons online) on how to draw the figure, and then
make a comic. if you can write and arrange things visually
you could make one easily. just takes practice.

d00d i have ALL those.....it's Gonick is so great, it's REAL
history, that makes it even funnier......ehehhehe

my greek history professor had us buy all the ones
pertaining to greek history, and i went ahead and got the
REST! ahhahah

zaphod....i have an ART degree, and i too enjoy the drawing
of some of the cartoon artists......WOW.....is what i have
to say.

as for comics i like EC Comics from the 50's best .....Tales
From the Crypt, Vault of Horror, Haunt of Fear,
etc.........

those are CLASSIC and very hard but not impossible to find.

i also like ALL Stan Lee's Superhero comics (he's currently
working with Pamela Anderson on a Comic about a STRIPPER i
think.....hahahahah that man is DA BOMB), X Men are awesome,
most DC and Marvel Comics as well.

recently i've seen some Neil Gaimen comics that i've wanted
to take a gander at, they are PRICEY tho.....so till now
i've not indulged, but i prolly will soon.

does any one have Horror comics to suggest, those are my
favourite, those and stuff like WEIRD SCIENCE!!!

comics are FUN!!!

i don't collect as much anymore, mainly cause I'm broke. But
I have the following:

*Curse of the Spawn (entire series, 1-29)
*The Darkness (most early issues, including number 1 -- the
series sucks since Ennis bailed)
*Blade of the Immortal (about ten, and the first trade
hardback)
*Excalibur (that's right, you heard me -- one of the many
x-men spinoff groups)
*Dragonball Z
*Dragonball (yeah, i know)
*Various x-men (mostly x-men, wolverine, excalibur)
*Omega Men (old DC series derived from Green Lantern)
*Crimson (early issues, 1-7)
*Evil Ernie (some YouthGoneWild reissues, half of Destroyer
issues, and the last issue -- Ernie's demise in Day of the
Dead #3 of 3)
*Godhead #1
*A Tank Girl issue (The Oddysey #3)
*GWAR Slave Pit comic - Sexual Relationship issue... fucking
twisted, and signed by Techno Destructo himself
*Miscellaneous old Chaos, DC, Marvel, of course.

I used to be a huge Ghost Rider fan back in the days of Dan
Ketch. But I don't think I have any of my GR comics
anymore... I don't like the new Chaos books at all.

Death Rides a Pale Horse and the comic adaption of The

Does anyone remember the Maxx cartoon series? Does anyone

Oh man, I used to be REALLY into comics back in the early
90's, I spent hundreds getting all kinds of old
X-Men/related books. I think I still have Uncanny 266
somewhere, first appearance of Gambit. A lot of my old
comics vanished though. :_-(

I remember being really into the Death and Return of
Superman... the Steel guy, the Cyborg, the Kid, the other
guy with the shades... Doomsday (I have the paperback where
Superman ''died'') that was an insane storyline. And I have
''Kraven's Last Hunt'' with Spiderman, a prized possesion. I
think I stopped shortly after the Age of Apocalypse and
Trial of Spiderman storylines (the whole SUPER confusing
Clone thing) for some reason... and I NEVER hear about
comics anymore, we have a comic shop but I barely know any
other places that sell them.

Bane breaking Batman's back, that was good...

I still have a stack of old Wizard Mags, those things
were/are great. I'd really like to know what happened to
some of my comics, I had a four part Gambit mini-series that
was just AWESOME. Nice gold covers and everything, can't
find them now.

Anyone ever read ''Fight Man'' by Evan Dorkin? A one-shot
comic for DC or something, God it was hilarious.

Bisley's work on A.B.C Warriors is just i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e.

Totally into Alan Moore here, so.. Wrote a big assignment on
V for Vendetta (got 11! (sorta like an A))

From Hell is great.

Anyway, i just noticed that none of you mentions Grant
Morrisons: "Invisibles"..

Anyone read them??? Theyre wicked for sure!

Anyway, into Sandman? Try reading some of Neil Gaimans
books, theire actually quite good.

And for people like zaphod... I really want to draw a comic,
but i don't like writing, soooo.

I want to team up with a writer at some point.

I'd say i'm quite good at drawing, and i would expect the
writing to be top notch!

unfortunately, none of my sketches are up, but thats because

Anyway, i know classical drawing, and my personal style is

I will soon buy a scanner, and you will be able to see my
