"Yeah, I can do that too.."

haha.

Click here to watch a 25 minute interview with the
man, the myth; Otis Jackson Jr. AKA Madlib, Quasimoto,
Yesterdays New Quintet..

He plays clips from the upcoming Jaylib album as well as
pieces from Madvillan, the upcoming collaboration with MF
Doom.

He also talks about how The Unseen was recorded entirely on
a TASCAM 8 Track analog recorder and that the only cost of
recording the album was the bag of mushrooms he locked
himself in the studio with. He also says that Angles Without
Edges was recorded with one $1.50 microphone.

He's real nervous in the interview.. it's kinda funny seeing
him put on the spot like that. No wonder the guy has
multiple personalities.

56k stream available here.

trav: the interview goes into a question and answer session
with the class at red bull music academy. one of the
students asks if he listens to any "experimental electronic
music, anything off the Warp label.. Aphex Twin,
Squarepusher?"
"Yeah", he says, "I can do that too".. making the crowd
chuckle.

thaddy: the link should fire up your real player after
opening the null page.. there is an abridged transcript of
the interview here if you want to check that out.

well...Liam looked like he was more interested in studying
the decoration of the studio, than the actual interview.

the madlib invades blue note jazz remix album is really
good.

jaylib has been re-recorded and is now due out in october..
not sure when/if madvillain will be released but it's pretty
good. my favorite so far this year is definitely this blue
note disc.

notice how i picked a topic with aphex in the title..

oh man.. i thought by madlib this was going to be one of
those things that you'd do as a kid where there would be a
story would have certain words missing, and another person
would choose random adjectives, nouns, etc for each blank,
then you'd read the story through and it'd be all fucked up
and crazy.. maybe i should write one about richard quickly,
and ask you people here for the missing words, the first one
to be posted is the one that will be used, then i'll post
the whole story at the end?..
anyone game?

..here it is..

Richard D. James was born on i>December 25, 7498, in
Madagascar to parents Phyllis and Bobo
James. Richard was a very crusty boy and liked to
experiment with various Fallopian tubes.
When he reached the age of 10, he met Michael Jackson
and that was the start of a everlasting gooky
friendship and endless sticky musical collaboration.
His parents sometimes lactatingly objected to his
music-making, even though he was such a wet genius,
and solemnly displayed his gifts each day to them.
He continued releasing great, ugly llama(s),
and music throughout his life, until the 2003 release of the
super-glued smojphace ep, many of his elastic
fans jokingly objected to his new sound and pH
buffer(s)
.
The end

..that turned out better than i expected..
