of course white people HAVE helped thru guilt-motivation -
some have even admitted it, lee.

Much racism was brought about by EDUCATING people to be
racist (even if it wasn't so ugly or evident as in the
south), to just think they were superior withouth even
noticing - so they might think of themselves as non-racist,
but actually be acting or thinking in a superior manner.
That's been documented many times.

I agree with you, but not every white person who has gone
against injustice has done so out of guilt, and I agree with
the fact the people are still being 'educated' to beleive
they are superior, but I cannot and will not accept that
white people, as a race, have anything to be accountable
for.

likewise,i'll never be ashamed of being white.all cultures
and races have fucked over all other cultures and races
throughout history.its easy to just think of western
imperialism and think 'oh,werent we awful,i must spank
myself for the rest of my life'.the English and Americans
for example are always seen as the creators of slavery, but
the Egyptians and god knows who else were doing it years
before us.it doesnt make it right, but you have to look at
the whole picture and not just pick at the bits of history
that suit you.and also remember that while certain white
people English people in power were srewing other lands for
profit, they were also screwing white people in their own
country.poverty and misery during the British empire
happened as much here as it did in many countries we
colonised.
basically, give any individuals power, wether they be
white, black or green, and they will screw whoever they can.

I think it's because it's something a lot of people feel
uncomfortable discussing in real life... the relative
anonymity of the net lets people discuss it in an open and
frank way without really caring if someone calls them
rascist or a "nigger-loving liberal".

It's worth noting that it's only since the internet became
popular that white people started to hear the expression,
"smelling like a wet dog when it rains" :)

it's interesting how a lot of people who responded to this
thread stated something along the lines of 'no i'm not
racist, but i do have a beef against different cultural
aspects', ie. subculture - such as preppy, hip hopper, nerd,
goth, etc. the list goes on and on.
but that in itself is still discrimination, and wouldn't you
agree that it is just as 'bad' as racism?
unless you don't care about the fact that you discriminate
on things that people can choose 'after the fact' (ie. that
they were born a certain skin colour).

Nah, I reckon it's worse to discriminate against something
people can't change...

Besides, goths deserve all they get. Attention seeking cream
faced loons. j/k

haha, well i've been there too. i've tried to justify that
kind of 'a posteriori' discrimination on other people, but
then whenever i let my guard down, so to speak, i've ended
up meeting some really interesting people who just want to
dress differently than i, or believe a different religion
than i (although i'm not a believer of any religion). some
may be assholes, but some may be very fascinating
individuals - the same goes for the people on this board i'm
sure :)
i think it's highly dependent on the individual, not
dependent on what they are, or what they wear, or what they
believe in, etc.

I don't write off any group, I might disagree with them,
make jokes at their expense etc. but there are invariably
individuals from any group I get on with.

I think communism is an ideology is childish, flawed and
impractical. However, doesn't mean I won't be mates with
someone because they're a bit red ;)

I'm sorry
For something I didn't do
Lynched somebody
But I don't know who
You blame me for slavery
A hundred years before I was born

Guilty of being white
(minor threat)

but hey, I prefer to think we're all just people. We're all
different. We're all the same. May sound a bit idealistic,
but you've got to start somewhere.

to answer this question:

no.

i'm caucasian, and i've befriended many people of different
ethnicities. i judge people only by how they treat others
and theirselves.

don't forget, you can be racist and have friends of
different ethnicities - not all racsts are aware of their
racism.
