I like the old TV-series "Happy days"...
So. You think the Fonz is cool or not?

He gets all the ladies.

Cool. He snaps his fingers and magic happens. That's
definitive cool that never goes out of style.

Beyond cool or uncool. to paraphrase Nitsche.

I almost cried when I saw that one episode where he went
blind.

cool without question

Mmmm... let's see... young guy in black leather, obsessed
with his hair and hangs out in a washroom all the time...
was there a subtext to that show that I'm missing?

I don't know..

I mean, how cool can anyone be who hangs around with Richie
Cunningham..?

seems kind of impossible to be even slightly cool.

and why did mrs. Cunningham at one point in the series
always say she was feeling "frisky"..?

what was up with that!?

He was uncool. He looked like a 40 year old bloke hanging
around with kids. Wearing a leather jacket does not make you
cool.

Wasn't the actor's name "Henry Winkler", wasn't that cool?
:D

I think he was a cool cat.

Jonesy: Nothing worng, with 40 year old men hangning around
with kids, eh? *da-dun-tch!*

never seen happy days, but i've always heard about this
fonzie guy and how "cool" he was. i looked for pictures of
teh fonz on google, and he kinda looked more of a dork than
being cool. that's just first impression, i would like to
see an episode of happy days before i judge him

You've seen all you need to see and you came to the right
assessment.

Ceri: well, I more often than not see 16 year old council
estate kids hanging around with an 8 year old and a 12 year
old.

heyyy sit on it! i was surprised there are so many valid
points for his uncoolness, but hes still da man in my
book.....he helped out nerds where someone else in his
position would give them wedgies...

yeah true.
He thougth they were geeky (and he doesn't like nerds), so
he's a great guy actually.
There was so many things about him that was kinda "loser"
(the stuff some of you mentioned + he lived above Ritchi'es
garage), but I'd say he's cool.
He had some great selfesteem.

Like some of you mentioned there were some special
phrases/words used in the show...
Like "sit on it", and (like qrter said) that Mrs Cunningham
sometimes said she was feeling "frisky"...

I really like the show... feels nostalgic, but then it was
already nostalgia when it was made...

A word as awesome as the Fonzinator has not yet been

isn't the fonz hanging out with richie cunningham the same
principle as the pretty girls at school who surrounds
themselves with fat, ugly friends.. all greasy hair and
cobblestone skin.. bad breath, wabby legs and acne - they do
it to make themselves look better.

besides.. 'cool' is a nonsense. a transcendental term.

the definition of whats cool, changes every generation.

we can't comment, because we didn't know the show at the
time it came out.

not read much of whats on here.. but the show history is
quite amusing. whoever wrote it seems to really care..
they describe winkler's fonz as "three dimensional"..

that is true.

and although that he invented that phrase IS cool, that he
actually jumped the shark IS NOT.

is it the same as flogging the horse?m coz i am mega at that
caper.

in a later episode of "happy days", the Fonz was
water-skiing and thusly jumped over some sharks.

this is marked as the point where the show went downhill.

so now the phrase means the point from where something good
starts to go crappy.
