bearing in mind saw85-92 do u lot reckon beats are necessary or are u just as into beatless tunes? im into both.

I'd say as a rule it needs a beat but not "beats." maybe it doesn't even need that now that I think about it.

IMO if absolutely no music had beats it would be dull. i do agree however that it's okay for music to take a recess from percussion now and then.

Hardly any of my stuff has beats. There's plenty of beatless music around to show they aren't essential.
