GobalGoon Yay or Nay?

so his sounds are ok. The melodies are cheesy, the rhythms
are decent but repetitive. Honestly I cant imagine why he's
so hyped up (probably only because he's on reflex, any other
label and he wouldn't recieve a 1/4 of the attention he is
getting) His latest album cover makes me want to vomit.

My vote: Nay

nay..

that album cover is the gayest thing ever.. i like some
tunes but its a bit average and repetetive... the reason hes
such a hype is because hes promoting himself everywhere he
can...

All power to him. I haven't heard much of his stuff, so I'll
reserve my judgement.

That's my favourite by him. His other stuff that I've heard
isn't up to that level IMHO.

vatican nitez has a nice original sound to it, and is very
pleasant to listen to

all, imo. they're delicious!

his first two were shite and i ebay-ed them off post haste .
his latest however bucked the trend and was most pleasant -
i think he's finally found his sound and should progress
further in his next release

yay...I can't see how you can call him overrated either. If
there was any justice in this world he would have MORE hype,
not less.

And how may other artists call in without a disguise and
chat to people on message boards. Also the remix comp he
did and the new one he is doing...I have never saw him get
proper credit for this.

Also it is a bit shit when people start to judge an artist
on the basis of an album cover...just my opinion.

:D

offline handoverthecart on 2003-05-04 20:51 [#00684270]

yay, i like vatican nitez, but i do agree he is a bit
overrated. a few of the tracks on there just seem like the
same melody played over and over on different instruments.

he admitted on WATMM he only posted here to get attention
for his remix comp... which was largely self-serving (a
promotion to get attention from people who otherwise never
cared about global goon). i agree though it's shallow to
judge based on an album cover and i don't think he's
overrated because so few people really shout his praises.

cant see whats wrong with little self promotion...rephlex is
not doing it...warp is certanly not doing it
(all they care about is to keep promoting autechre hehe)

wow! there's some really stupid things that have been said
in this topic, global goon you may dislike, but nobody can
put him down talent-wise or expression-wise, i mean what is
an artist if not someone like j-hok °_°, say fine if you
don't like but don't put down...

i like Cradle of History more than Vatican Nitez, and both
covers are very cool imo

I haven't heard his stuff..

but why can't you say something about someone's cover..?

its an integral part of the package, I think. so if the
artwork is shitty, it does mean a big minus.

I do agree ofcourse that you can't say his music is shittier
(or not) because of his artwork ha ha ha..

i think the new artwork is great. i also think his artwork
suits his music very well.

I think they're two separate things...makes no difference to
me musicwise if the artwork's good, bad or non-existent!
