Gescom - Autechre

Earface from the ever fleeting past on 2001-10-14 12:01 [#00040955]

Hello again.
I have become increasingly obsessed with Autcehre. I think
that I prefer them to any other electronica artist I have
heard (including Mr.James).
Anyway, I have some questions: -
The mp3 file APHEX TWIN & AUTECHRE - LIVE IN VANCOUVER that
is readily available on the net is fucking amazing. I am
quite sure that this is ONLY Autechre (but I'd like to hear
some confirmation about this) but I would like to know where
to get hold of it on CD.
Also, why is there only a small amount of Gescom CDs
available? There seem to be a few listed on Autechre.nu but
hardly any of them are available.
Please respond because I think that I am going to cry.

Aron? from Canada on 2001-10-14 12:18 [#00040957]

I'm probably the only one here who doesn't like Autechre...I
do like Gescom though.

Bah.

Earface from the ever fleeting past on 2001-10-14 13:10 [#00040960]

Could somebody please reply to my question

Loogie from UK on 2001-10-14 13:44 [#00040961]

Gescom seem to release most of their stuff on Skam a small
label in Manchester. I bought a Gescom EP on CD called Key
Nell 1/2 a couple of weeks ago in London from Sisterray
Records in Soho. They also sell the Gescom Minidisc.

I think all their other releases are on vinyl and v. rare.

Loogie from UK on 2001-10-14 13:48 [#00040962]

I haven't heard of those Autechre and Aphex tracks.... it's
probably is JUST Autechre, or it would be listed as a
colaboration on this site.

Where did you find them - I'd like to hear them!

Earface from the ever fleeting past on 2001-10-14 15:39 [#00040983]

Try soulseek.com there is a huge community of electronica
fans and lots of shared mp3s.

This will probably be my last post for a while because I am
going back to University in a few hours and don't have
direct access to a terminal.

Ah well. Thanks for letting me come back on by the way
Phobiazero. I owe you one.

Loogie on 2001-10-14 16:50 [#00040999]

Yeah, I like soulseek. I'll do a search.

Don't work too hard...

Phobiazero from Sweden on 2001-10-15 09:16 [#00041262]

It's only Autechre (according to my sources).

It's hard to get those Gescom releases due to the low print
volume. Personally I can't find any Gescom material in the
Swedish stores. (contact me if you do).

gescom would be more apropriatly described as a project
rather than a band i think

some will know it for sure, but they tend to like the
mistery.

And you can check the site of skam records to find out which
releases are still available in which format. The rest is
probably for sale at insane prices at ebay or so.

is not even part of it - like iss sa.

It's a top class record. It might not be Rob & Sean, but the
music's good. That's what it's about.

definitely involved in this. maybe they didn't do it all
themselves but i hear their imprint.

they played the tracks live in coachella, and i cant really
see anyone on the skam label making that sound without Ae's
involvement... anyway... i do believe push button objects
have been quite a big part of gescom, no?

live mp3 i heard from way back???(coachella or vancouver i
think?)

You're talking about the '99 coachella bootleg.
And they did that more in the past, playing some songs live
that were not by them. I'm not saying it is the case with
the Iss sa songs on that particular bootleg, but I have a
boolteg from '96 in which they do play Eutow for instance,
but also a lot of songs not by them.

from what I heard they play Tilapia, something Quarter from
Envane and that track that's a cross between that
plate-spinning song on Peel session 2 and maphive 6.1. It's
the best bootleg I've heard

hmm my guess would be that ae were involved with at least
the first three tracks on iss sa, cause they played those on
coachella 99. or is that not a valid reason?

morgoth, what do you mean not tracks by them? is it a dj
set, or a live set? having seen ae live 6 or 7 times, i
think its probably tracks you've not heard before. after
all, they are not a club band playing cover versions for
lager!!!! ; )

I'm no expert on this topic, but as far as I know Dual
Purpose-Hobs have "gescom" written on it. And Sean&Rob have
played from the last Gescom-ep at their concerts.

I'd have thought Darrell Fitton (Bola) would have had
something to do with some Gescom releases.

I'm not sure what they exactly play at any of thier gigs.
Most of their confield tour gigs are not with covers or any
of that kind.

But to me it seems real hard to reproduce their songs live
completely. I mean, when they record them, they have loads
more equipment than when playing live. I guess (and yes, it
is guessing) that the coachella was more or less some DJ-ing
involvoled.
