if he sucks that bad that he wont put out an album he spent
all this time on, just cuz of this... then he loses MAD
points in my book. this looks to be the best u-ziq album, in
my opinion. it's a shame some people can't roll with it.

It's a shame people download the fucking thing when it is
going to be so easily available from places like Warpmart
and probably places like HMV.

That really annoys me, i only ever download things that i
can't get (HAB, AB5, MFM for example) and when i', checking
out an artist. If i like his/her stuff and its available to
buy i delete the MP3's and by the CD

well, here's an opportunity for all the bloodsucking,
downloading, music "fans" out there, who labour under the
misapprehension that they deserve to listen to planet mu
(and the others)without repaying them, to NOT download
Bilious Paths.
Why not try adding an actual CD or LP to your already
overbrimming hard drive collection?

couldn't download it.

"*true* ...but you know...they buy it afterwards...."

if only. unfortunately that's bullshit. there is a large
percentage of people, it's quite likely that a lot of them
use this board, that do not buy music. and whether we like
it or not, they will slowly but surely eat away at the
financial stability of small labels, and at the end of the
day the music will slowly disappear. i know it's been said a
million times before, but it's fact.

Same here. People say that's a cop out, but only I
know the truth about what I would or wouldn't buy. After
finally getting a copy of Portishead - Dummy for my birthday
I can honestly say, "I have NO music on MP3 that:
a) I would buy a copy of if it wasn't available for
download.
b) Is still available to buy.
c) I'm not looking for a copy of on CD or 12"..."

inverted whale - no, i'm not generalising of course. just
stating that out of the many many people on this board,
there are going to be a number who store the bulk of their
music collection on a hard drive rather than a shelf.

offline Ceri JC from Jefferson City (United States) on 2003-04-15 09:55 [#00651579]

Blipseed: That's not a fact.

How do you explain record sales being UP 10% the year
napster really took off?

I've bought at least 30 albums (Not to mention gone to about
5 gigs) that I would never of even heard of had it not been
for P2P. You have a very single sided view of the matter...

offline Duble0Syx from Columbus, OH (United States) on 2003-04-15 09:58 [#00651581]
Points: 3436 Status: Lurker

I wouldn't buy everything I have on mp3. Some of it is
alright music. And if I couldn't download it I still
wouldn't buy it. Because I can download music I have
discovered a lot of new artist, and bought thier cd's. I
wouldn't any Autechre if I hadn't downloaded it first. I'm
not a big SP fan and if I couldn't download his music I
still wouldn't buy it cause I don't like it that much. Now
should I delete it because of that? I don't see why I
should since it's not hurting him financially.

ceri jc - that's because you use p2p in an honourable way,
as i'm sure a lot of people do. but don't believe for a
second that everybody regards it in the same way as you. to
a LOT of people it's a free record shop.
i have a view of the matter, but it is by no means
single-sided.

offline Duble0Syx from Columbus, OH (United States) on 2003-04-15 10:01 [#00651585]
Points: 3436 Status: Lurker

I'm sure some people do see it as a free record shop, but
enough people don't that it increases sales rather than
hurts them. The riaa just twist the statistics so it looks
like sales have declined.

i download a lot of music. most of the time, i am glad i
didn't spend money on it. If it is good, then i go and see
the artist if they tour. On some occasions if the record is
good, i will buy it on vinyl after downloading it. Or, with
Twoism and Draft 7.30, the downloaded copies i got were such
crap that i had to buy them.

it should be noted, that most of the anti-downloading
sentiment comes from the producers, not the artists. of
course some artists are also producers but in general,
producers and their labels are more vocal about it because
they are the ones hurt most by downloading. Artists make
almost nothing off of record sales unless they go platinum
or something.
If you want to support the artist, go see them live, buy
their t-shirts, and tell all your friends to listen their
music.

i hope someday that all the warner bros, virgin records,
DGC, TVT, Columbia, and all the other mega companies go
totally broke from downloading music. then maybe people will
make music just for the music, not for the Phat Escalade's
with the 30 inch rims.
