They're both different albums.

I can' t really choose which one I like best.

Yes but if you had to choose like me today, which would you
have got?

I would probably cry over the fact that I can only get one.

I'd probably go for Draft because it's the newer one. You
have lived for a long time without confield and can get that
one afterwards so I would go for the newer one. But who am I
to say?

that doesnt make sense, confield is not old style

Confield is far superior in my humble opinion. More
emmotional, and feels less random and "self-destructive"
compared to Draft 7.30. Still, Draft is great fun, but
doesn't touch me in the same way Confield does.

i may need more time with draft, but confield i don't think
they'll ever equal, or at least they haven't done it yet. it
seems they've taken a big step back with draft.

draft will take just as long as confield did to really "sink
in"... but if i had to choose today, i'd go with confield...

I mean since ive only had draft 7.30 for a few days i cant
give a completely reliable answer but so far id definately
still say confield.

draft is the contonuation of confield

It may be a continuation, but it isn't a good one. Confield
was clever and atmospheric....Draft is more clever from a
technical perspective maybe, but lacks certain elements from
Confield that made Confield so enjoyable (I think Confield
had superior melodies....tracks 1,2,3,7,8 had amazing
melodies, and the other tracks were still great..)

Confield sounds to me like a moist organic alien world
perpetually shrouded in a deep twilight blue. Draft sounds
like the interaction between an alien being's central
nervous system and the entheogenic fungi growng in that
planet's soil. I love it all mang.

i love the descriptions there, nice comparisons, draft seems
much more "fun" as far as autechre goes. track 9
especially. i has all the clicks and noises but i disagree
thats a continuation of confield and rather a regression
style wise (this doesnt mean its not good, it is)

offline Empiricus from South Carolina (United States) on 2003-04-14 16:48 [#00650291]

I don't see it as being very similar to Confield outside
of the complexity of both albums. Cranked through a loud
stereo, Draft is damn funky!

These music papers are beginning to piss me off with this
"not as ballsy as Confield" stuff -- these are the fuckers
who never even liked Confield to begin with, and they feel
thats the only justification they have against anything.

I prefer Confield, for reasons i cannot explain.

I'm digging Draft more than Confield right now personally.
(Though I could not do without either) God I love Ae!

gantz graf (while being made at the same time) is a
continuation of confield, and draft 7.30 is a continuation
of gantz, only far more complex.

What do you mean by "continuation"? They sound quite
distinct to me. Obviously what they have done before is
going to influence how they approach the new stuff, but do
you hear a definite musical progression that is based on a
linkage?

offline optimus prime on 2003-04-14 21:01 [#00650683]

the sounds used in gantz graf, really grating sounds, small
bits of melody popping up here and there, constant
evolution. that's draft.

Draft does not have the enormous replay value of
Confield.... It gets boring to listen to constantly much
much faster then Confield. IMO Confield sets the bar so
incredibly high that I dont AE will ever top themselves....
Draft is an excellent record and an excellent follow up
though.

after having draft for a while, my opinion of it really
hasnt changed, i still like confield much more, i see gantz
graf as somewhat of a continuation of confield but draft is
not the next step musicwise. i still like draft but theres
just a few minor things missing, maybe major things, i cant
tell, but it doesnt have the atmosphere that confield
has--not even close actually.

eh...get em all I'll say...though I'd hardly call Confield
old style Ae :)...IMO it is pretty much new style Ae with
more abstract beats and melodies than the pre-chiastic slide
era stuff.

draft is good, but id go with confield. feels deeper.

the only song i really listen to on draft consistantly is
surripere. its one of my autechre favorites. rest seems
kinda light to me. well done, but not something id listen to
lots.

i dont know if i can decide.....

to me, draft definitely sounds like it was made after
confield.. its like it has a more developed sound or
something

so draft sort of has this edge because it sounds "fresher"
to me... but ive also listened to confield a LOT more so i
dont know

draft :)
