make a track w/ 1 sound only

Try to make a track using only one very short percussion or
click sound sample and then post it in this thread. I'll
start (and probably be the only one who bothers). The entire
track can only use 1 type of sound composed into any sort of
pattern. Here's mine:

http://artists.iuma.com/IUMA/Bands/wmw/
"only 1 click sound"

It isn't a very good track, but it's ... well, it's a TINY
bit of a smidgen interesting, to me anyway.. well I lied,
it's not interesting to me either. But the point is that the
entire track only uses one click sample (I have to repeat
this concept to you because you are slow) *suddenly I forget
what I'm talking about.
I managed "pseudomelodies" using only this one click. Now I
know what you're asking. w M w, walking textbook of music
theory, what exactly IN THE HELL... ARE pseudo melodies, I
am SOOO interested. Well I am going to tell you. You see my
dimwitted friend, every single click in the track is of the
same pitch. but some series of same-pitch-clicks (which are
played really fast) are a faster tempo so it makes a
distinct "pitch"... yeah, so like that's what happens. I did
use different octaves, but still it sounds like some sort of
melody is there other than octaves. I don't know why I'm
writing so much since this track really does suck, but maybe
you can do better. Even though nobody will bother. Ta ta! I
wonder what I was writing about in this thread.. I'll reread
it and probably find out I was talking bean burritos and
stuff.

ok ok, well the first 1/3 of the track has ALL single octave
clicks, but then when the melodyish part gets by itself,
there are 2 octaves (c and f).

how about making a track from any one sample of any kind

a click is not a very interesting building block. personally
its more something that ill derive from a longer sample

You could save an entire track as a wav and upload it saying
that's one sample. It has to be a distinct POP, or BOINK, or
PAP, but no, I repeat NOO DONKS!!! It can be a sound like
PLOP or BOOM.. BUT NO DONKS (I hate donks).

that was pretty neat actually. I don't think I'm quite up to
par yet in my composition skills to make something decent
though.

it's the best thing you have ever done.

however, I do not believe its just one sample. I will NOT
believe it. I say NO to that notion. and perhaps also: GO
AWAY.

I have entered your nervous systems through your eyes via
written language and manipulated you to behave in a way that
*I* want you to. I love language.

I don't knooooow, "f" makes a nicer sound than "c" on MY
keyboard.

That's kinda funny, thanks. hmm, well (I was going to make
some sort of statement or something here but I forgot). It
does use only single note clicks though as (attempted) to
describe in my initial post (the first 3rd of it ONLY has
single note clicks, the rest just adds another note but
they're all still clicks)

You don't like my snarkle technique then. I've used that
mostly in my recent tracks (the top 2 tracks on my page)

Thanks, I have a lot more at:
www.mp3.com/snarkle
www.mp3.com/artificialselection

unfortunately, mp3.com limited everyone to 3 tracks only so
the rest are hidden. Iuma.com is great currently, unless it
gets corrupted like mp3.com.

that's quite economical

and if you want melodies, just take a sound segment and
divide the musical frequency of the desired note by 1000 ms
and then you'll have the length of the segment by which to
loop to buzz at that note's frequency.

i guess that could be considered the poor man's comb filter.
=p

i'm in ...

ps: wmw .. that is an amazing little track. i really like
the second minute, those pseudo-melodies kick some b-hind.

i might try with a 808 boom - are booms ok? actually maybe a
click. i should have a click somewhere.

Cool, I look forward to your twaks. Maybe I might do
another. Or maybe not, it depends on how insignificant my
track becomes relative to yours :) I like the second minute
of my trak the most too (considering the song was only 1
minute and it ended by then, heh heh). I actually didn't
spend much time on this track, and I didn't listen to it
much before I posted it. Maybe it's better than I thought
since people (perhaps I shouldn't assume you are people)
seem to like it.

boom- Hmm.. judges?
...

yes, yes, booms are ok. and clicks. but NO DONKS!!

maybe you can do a track with 2 sounds .. and then 3 and
then .. maybe not though.

judges?
...
... well, TAB is acceptable, but not STAB. Using STAB will
result in a permanent ban and your track being deleted.
Actually, even tab has two consonate syllableish percussion
sounds.

The single click sample I made my track with is already
uploaded. Just listen to my track, and at the very end (the
single last click), that is the single click I used.. so you
could chop that little last click of the wav off if you
want.

cansabur was cool, duble0syx, reminded me of theterminator 2
type military beat. I think it used more than one sound,
even though it was a very limited pallette, although I could
be wrong.

As for SHISPs or PLERPs.. I think it's too many consonants
again... for example you could take "PLERP" and divide it
into "P" and "LER" and "P" (the last p would probably be
pronounced slightly different than the first P).. so you
could cheat and make a beat with these 3 sounds instead.

my track tempo wasn't super fast to get those "melodies"
sadist, it was a normal speed, BUT the wav I made I imported
and played at a really high octave so it would be as fast as
possible (but still the same pitch).

I guess you can use vst's and pitching if you want, although
you can sort of cheat this way too. (make an echo click and
a non-echo click, ta da you have 2 samples)

It's gonna be fun to hear these. Basically be creative (or
don't) and do what you want, but you get the basic purpose
of being limited to one short sound. You can do your own
thing and expand (or contract) on it or whatever, but for
example, if you are allowed to use different pitches, you
can simply make, like a piano melody (that only uses one
sound in different pitches)... that's not really what I
meant, but if you want to do that you are FREE!! FREE I TELL
YOU!!! *ahem
well I used volume in mine, so i could make the same
argument that a "click" and a "CLICK" can be treated as 2
seperate samples.. whatever. You'll all have different ideas
anyway.

By the way I plan to mix these all into a final
compilation... yeah, THIS THREAD WILL BE IT, heh heh.
