Is it just me or is their a lot of overrated pish on Warp?
You have the excellent shit like Ae Aphex Squarepusher Plaid
Boc, but then you have new age gumph like Plone (pingu theme
music) Mira Calix (Gucci girl records bananas growing
bollox) and Broadcast (half-arsed jazz Michael Caine 60s
wank). Just my opinion heh heh

Plone: I downloaded something by them from emusic, thought
it was awful so can agree there.

Mira Calix: I try so hard to like her stuff, hell, I own all
her stuff, but in truth I find it second rate. I can forgive
her though cos she's beautiful ;)

Broadcast: never heard anything by them.

There is overrated stuff on Warp, but then again there's
overrated stuff on any label.

i don't think any artists on warp are overrated, some are
just underpromoted. are you one of those people who thinks
only the most popular artists in a genre are really good?

some of my favorite warp releases in the last couple years
have been by underdogs. prefuse 73's last album, APC's last
album, req's last album, boom bip's last album. plaid's
"double figure" was brilliant but most people would rather
talk about the fairly formulaic and predictable "geogaddi"
(which i also love, don't get me wrong). shall i go on or do
you get the point?

Dude have you checked out Ahmed Abdul-Malik? He has two
albums on EMusic that fuse Jazz and African music rather
successfully. Jazz Sahara is more middle eastern sounding,
and Jazz Sounds of Africa is more "african" (tribal?)
sounding.

I haven't, but I may download one of them overnight on your
recommendation.

Hmmmm... on second thoughts the Jazz Sahara is almost too
middle eastern and not jazzy enough... the Jazz Sounds of
Africa is more varied.

hold up a moment here. not sure if you actually are talking
about a perfect circle by "apc," but i assume so.
anyhow....they are soooo not the underdog in the least!!
maybe if they didn't have the singer of tool fronting the
band they could be considered so! everyone wants to listen
to your record when you have who is probably the best
vocalist (and quite an ESTABLISHED one at that) in general
rock music in your band.

APC = Anti Pop Consortium... a perfect circle aren't on warp
records.

oh, i'm the idiot, sorry. i was thinking you meant
underdogs in general. i have a little grudge against that
band and it affected my ability to think clearly...
