Hello,

I'm a newbie so please be gentle.

I was wondering if anyone here listens to Jan Jelinek? I
bought the new album (La Nouvelle Pauvrete) and I really dig
the simplicity and subtleness of it.

So my real question is that has anyone here heard his
previous album "Loop Finding Jazz Records"? ANy comments abt
it, good/bad?

I know Tolstoyed is a HUGE fan of jelinek (i think he even
said this was his favourite music at the moment), so wait
until he comes online and be sure to bring this thread back
to the top then. :-)

I've only heard one track he sent to me called 'music to
interrogate by', which i really liked. I've put la nouvelle
pauvrette on my wishlist :-D

loop finding was in my top 5 for 2001. much better than la
nouvelle....recommendation.

Hehe. Yeah, Loop-finding... is a nice record, but slightly
colder and more hermetic than La nouvelle pauvrette. He
actually sampled some jazz records but the samples are so
short that you can't tell the sources anyway. It's minimal
tech-house, similar to Pole, but with a house beat. He also
makes music as farben and this is also click-house stuff,
the latest album "Textar" is nice. Also, try to find his
collaboration with computer soup (I think it's called
"Improvisations and edits"), I don't know if it's out yet
but it's on soulseek. Very, very nice, easily better than La
nouvelle pauvrette.

i'm currently getting into his stuff.
i've got his 12" on scape and the recent album he did with
computer soup.
both amazing chill-out records. what chill-out music should
be like, not moby or moloko wartered-down shite.

Yeah, absolutely. Chill-out should be minimal and abstract.
But everytime you put a 'good' chill-out cd on at a party
and everyone just goes apeshit and start shouting "turn that
shit off!" :/

I'll try to look for the computer soup collaboration. I hope
it's not vinyl only... I haven't reached that level of music
finesse to own a vinyl player yet ;)

wow, great to see this many people showing interest in jan
jelinek
im quite a newcomer to his music-since january (i had that
farben cd since it was released, but i wasnt aware it is
jelinek)
that textar album he did as farben is nice but not as nice
as his other stuff
-that live improvisations and edits album really got me into
jelineks music-so nice compositions it just makes my head
spin...
(btw, this is the album he did with COMPUTER SOUP-i saw its
available for order from WARPMART!?)
Loop Finding Jazz Records is superb music but i slightly
prefer la nouvelle pauvrete
oh, and another great album (perhaps my favourite one by
jelinek) he did under the name GRAMMAR and album is titled
PERSONAL ROCK
if you like nouvelle pauvrette you're going to love personal
rock...
