On his form to date, you can bet that tens, perhaps hundreds
of thousands more Iraqis would die needlessly if Saddam was
left where he is.

jees! you lot are still talking about this?

Lets just hope the war doesn't go badly and stop all our
*pointless* arguing. All its doing is turning this
messageboard into a political forum... which isnt a good
thing.

How shit are the iraqis at fighting? We're fucking trouncing
them. And we're hardly even trying. You'd think they could
at least put up some kind of resistance. If this was a
boxing match I'd be asking for a refund. Let's get this over
with and take on more of a challenge. Like North Korea.

People often cite the possibility of civil war and the
falling apart of Iraq as a possible outcome of this war.
Surely an Iraqi revolution would be far more likely to bring
this about that?

All an uprising by the Iraqi people would achive is a lots
of dead Iraqi people. They are no match for the republican
guard who protect Saddam.

this option out of the window, what other option is there
jonesy?

"tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands more Iraqis would die"

why not millions or tens of millions? it makes a more
impressive number

there already was an uprising and the west didn't do
anything to help them and they were all killed and now the
west is using that number of dead people for anti saddam
propaganda instead of being ashamed of not supporting them

Well, we killed half a million in the last Gulf War and
another half a million with sanctions. I think you need to
brush up on your maths. And your politics. And you history.

hey look! danbrusca used that "How many people will die if
Saddam *isn't* removed?" argument, as if the anti-war people
wanted saddam to stay! see how simple it is to use that
argument! WE WANT SADDAM HUSSEIN DEPOSED TOO! where we
disagree with pro-war people is WHO it is who is doing it
and WHY... there was a kind of vox-pops with everyday
moslems in surrounding countries, and they said "this will
make a million more Bin Laden's...my sons will grow up to be
Bin Ladens", and this is because America is invading Iraq -
so what will the casuality list be then? Because some
Right-Wing cunts want to control the middle-east, and have
decided Iraq was a safe bet to start -- maybe they'll take
Iran next, and then Saudi Arabia won't rest so easy...&tc
&tc ---> holy war alert!

No, western intervention will. The legacy of imperialism has
created many civil wars; from the Balkans to Africa.

The only reason people are against the war is because they
are afraid that some terrorist is going to plant a bomb in
their neighbourhood in retalliation. They couldn't care less
about the iraqi's plight.

The estimates of deaths in the Gulf War seems to range from
180,000 to 300,000. Sure it's a lot, but we can do without
sensationalist exaggerations.

Funny how so many of those people who complain about us
acting without UN backing are quick to blame UN sanctions
for killing Iraqis. Let's not forget that oil-for-food was
on the table in 1991 and the Iraqi government chose not to
accept it until 1996, thus prolonging their own people's
suffering more than necessary.

It's a perfectly valid argument, especially considering
nobody has an alternative.

Oh wait, there's the 'let them rise up themselves' argument.
An argument that conveniently forgets the threat of
thousands of deaths and civil war, threats it's advocates
are so eager to cite as results of the current action.

no, there is the method of constriction and close attention;
no need to bomb the fuck out of the country for that one to
work. Also, there would have been more Global Support, and
less likely to be kickbacks from other moslem states who see
this invasion as a possible threat of future intent and
action.

Not to mention the suppression of communications and
education, making it virtually impossible to organise
something like an uprising without hundreds of people being
tortured and executed even before the ball gets rolling and
even then there's no guarantee it'd succeed.

Marlowe: I agree other Moslem states may see it as an attack
on them (their religion dictates it) and it's something I
worry about.

This war is a fucking waste!!! Consider what could have been
achieved by a constructrive use of the funds that are wasted
in this war! Consider it!

The extreme islam can only be stopped by the moderate islam
and extreme arab nationalism can only be stopped by moderate
arab nationalism!

This war can do nothing but to make the extreme nationalists
and islamists stronger.

Hey, the so called coallition use depleted uranium in their
amunition! Savages!!!!

1,000 people have been arrested at a peace demonstration in
San Fransisco!

You americans MUST do something about your leaders before
they destroy the entire planet!

..have a nice weekend.

Co-existance

Bear in mind the US has all-to-often had to rid the roaches
of this Earth. Sometimes it has to be done. Not all things
can be solved in terms of communication. There are evil
people out there, face it. Not everyone can be talked
down.

Oh, and the 1000+ people arrested?
Yeah, tell them stupid cunts to get out of the street and
stop causing delays in Emergency Response Vehicles, and stop
bothering the public.

The right to assembly does NOT give you the right to block
traffic, block public buildings, hassel the public, or cause
any type of delay or instance.

"before they destroy the entire planet!"

yeah, ok - i think it's safe to say we do more for this
fucking planet than anyone else would dare to.

if we didn't "police" the world, this place would be a
terrible, terrible place.

unfortunetely, we have to use OUR money and OUR food and OUR
resources to do this.

but it's worth it.

because believe it or not, we actually look INTO the future,

Most of this garbage doesn't even deserve a reply. Matters
of this proportion need to be approached while keeping a
bird's eye perspective - Something very few of you are
seemingly uncapable of doing. All I see is anti-American
testicular flexing and righteous scholar blabber. This is
REAL - Things aren't black and white like they are in the
comic books. I'm pretty sure George Bush doesn't get the
Richard D. James smile on his face as he sits on the toilet
and contemplates the innocent lives being snuffed out by our
bombs in Iraq. Come on.

i know times when america has stepped in and helped out,
just wondering if u could supply a select few examples, but
once again the whole conversation has been changed into an
attack on someone else.

a different option that you could have taken was to actually
provide a few examples.....

Cabbog: people arent always being anti-american, but
anti-american leadership or perhaps are just anti towards
certain decisions taken.

oh and comic books arent all in black and white anymore! ;)

What the FUCK? Is it the same UN that is now useless and
obsolete and pointless??
