Cunts who bid in eBay in the last few minutes

Fucking pisses me off. Not the first time I've lost an
auction that way. It's fucking annoying. I was winning that
2 remixes for cash 12" with a bid $17 over what it was at
currently. Then some cunt had to come and bid me out at the
last minute. I'm feeling fucking murderous at the minute. I
want that fucking record a lot and some other fucking
bastard does that lowlife tactic. Happened with HAB a while
ago. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhh! I'm so pissed off.

such is life... happened to me once!

Doesn't it really make you mad though? I don't mind so much
if they've bid on it to start with but when they've
blatantly just been watching the auction it's really
annoying. It's rude in my opinion.

It's a standard e-bay practice! It's what any sensible
person does! Bids only at the last minute!

yeah, that's ebay

At the end of the day he obviously bid more than you did
regardless of when he did it. If you were willing to pay
more you should've bid more.

I've been outbid at the last minute so many times now I'm
actually surprised when I ever do win an auction. But
everybody's in the same boat. It could've been you placing
that last minute bid. You can't blame the other guy for
wanting the record as badly as you.

And no, I'm not that other guy...

offline giginger from Milky Beans (United Kingdom) on 2003-03-20 06:52 [#00605656]
Points: 26326 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

It can't be standard!!!!! Otherwise no-one would bid on
anything until the last minute and there'd be a mad scramble
to bid. I'm in a bad mood anyway today so maybe I'm
over-reacting. I don't know. I really wanted that record and
that's just tipped my mood over the edge. I'm royally pissed
off now. Even the e-mail from WarpMART saying my 26 mixes
for cash has been dispatched has not placated me. I may get
an anonymous e-mail account and flame the person. That may
make me feel better.....

Jar: Well I'm going to join you in the practice now. No
longer will I lose auctions that I want. No more shall I get
excited at the thought I will have whatever I'm bidding for.
Oh no! I WILL WIN MY AUCTIONS! By the way, I'll let it slide
that you do it because you haven't done it to me ;)

The worst case was when I was bidding on Dance to the Music.
There were two auctions for it. One finished a day later and
neither had a bid on them. I went for the earlier one.
No-one else bid until the last minute when some twat outbid
me. Prick. He could've just waited for the one that was the
next day! What's with that? Surely that's not common
practice.

It's just the fact that they did it at the last minute. They
showed no interest in it before. That's what annoys me. I
think $50 was high enough above what it was when I bid. It
was on $20 so I allowed for buffering. When you look at an
auction that you're winning and it's only got a matter of
minutes left and ut hasn't changed then I don't see a need
to increase

you can always insert a maximum bid (just take the max. you
want to pay for it), if someone bids in the last minute
you'll outbid them automatically

if no-one bids there's no problem, you just pay the lower
price you bid

Points: 26326 Status: Lurker | Followup to Morton: #00605672 | Show recordbag

I did put a max bid. $50. I thought that would've been
enough. Oh well. Next time I'll just put a stupid amount.

offline blipseed from Virgin Islands (US) on 2003-03-20 07:05 [#00605688]

Yeah, but you could end up paying way above the odds. It'll
always turn up again, and the price will steadily decrease
for the first while. Then in a year or so it'll go up
again.
I remember a guy was selling two copies of the Schaft CD
with the Autechre and Coil remixes, finishing 2 minutes
apart. The first copy ended up getting several last minute
bids and went for $35, while the second copy was snapped by
me for $8.50 while evrybody else got over the disappointment
of losing the first one.
So you see eBay can be kind to you too.

Hmmmmmm, well that;s consoled me slightly. I still have an
urge to break something though. I can't find it auctioned
anywhere else either.

But it doesn't make it representative of an auction, which
is what ebay is meant to be. It then becomes a game of who
can type quickly/has the fastest internet connection.

Giginger - watch out, putting a very silly high price is
dangerous if the seller employs shill bidders :/

I reckon ebay shouldn't show bid time left. You just new to
within 24 hrs. That'd be lush.

Spikee: "Don't you just love and hate it?"

Exactly how I feel :) I've got quite good at being able to
browse without buying though. Or at least put the minimum
bid on things I know will go for more (I've actually won one
thing for 50p that way as no one else bidded on it!)...

Yeah, that's the worst- when you have to send a cheque

it's after payday.

I will be so poor after ATP :/

Ebay has ruined the fun of trawling record shops for cool
stuff.. Last time I was in london at christmas I am sure all
the record shops I used to haunt when I lived there (berwick
st, record and vid exhanges in Camden, Notting Hill etc) had
far less of interest than they used to.

Nowadays anything even slightly rare and valuable bypasses
the shop shelves and goes straight onto ebay where it is
snapped up by people with too much money and not enough time
to trawl the shops for rarities in the time honoured
fashion... This is only good for people with a lot of money
(and no time) rather than the people who really want the
tunes and are willing to put the time in to find them..

Am i talking bollox or anyone agree?

I agree totally dude. Steel Wheels in Newcastle have not
clicked onto this yet which is good. They had HAB2 for £20
but I didn't get it.

Totally agree.

Although that said I found 12" original mo wax issues of
clubbed to death #1 and #2 for £7 each in a local record
store only last year! :D

Yeah its true.. sometimes you do get a bargain and then you
have warm and fluffy thoughts about ebay - but when you get
shafted you wish a swift and painful demise upon the whole
site....

I am sore with it right now since I got fucked on a banco de
gaia record I really wanted

RPM is but it's changed apparently, It used to have loads of
vinyl but when I looked them up it seemed mainstream.
Concepts? Never heard of. :/ Newcastle is not good for
underground techno really but this may change.

That 2 Mixes For Cash 12" Japanese release is limited to
1000 copies.

Congrats to Phob for getting the J4 first pressing - I was
unfortunately too busy at work to swoop in at the last
minute to take it :)

Giginger: You just gotta know how to play the game man...
trust me, it's much more exciting when you swoop in and grab
a goodie from someone who's thinking they'll pay some
undervalued amount, or when you're fighting hard for a
rarity with 20 other bidders.

RPM used to be cool - I got some great stuff there back in
about 95/96 when I was in Newcastle a lot..

Concepts used to be the other side of the Haymarket station
from RPM, just close to where the recruitmen office for the
Royal Marines is/was. ( I think - my memory is hazy and
shit) There was another really good record shop somewhere
around there as well..

There was a lot of shit happy house / hardcore stuff in
newcastle in those days...

Back then I was listening to europop and death metal >.<
When I got into Rephlex I was really annoyed because they
made the music I wanted but could never find. I missed a
lot. I used to go for the techno with German appeal but I
had no idea how to shop outside of HMV. :(
