of course we do need something to call it so that we may refer to it while it's in it's developmental stages.

HOW TO SECURE A COPYRIGHT
Copyright Secured Automatically upon Creation The way in which copyright protection is secured is frequently misunderstood. No publication or registration or other action in the Copyright Office is required to secure copyright. (See following Note.) There are, however, certain definite advantages to registration. See "Copyright Registration."
Copyright is secured automatically when the work is created, and a work is "created" when it is fixed in a copy or phonorecord for the first time. "Copies" are material objects from which a work can be read or visually perceived either directly or with the aid of a machine or device, such as books, manuscripts, sheet music, film, videotape, or microfilm. "Phonorecords" are material objects embodying fixations of sounds (excluding, by statutory definition, motion picture soundtracks), such as cassette tapes, CDs, or LPs. Thus, for example, a song (the "work") can be fixed in sheet music (" copies") or in phonograph disks (" phonorecords"), or both.
If a work is prepared over a period of time, the part of the work that is fixed on a particular date constitutes the created work as of that
date.
COPYRIGHT REGISTRATION In general, copyright registration is a legal formality intended to make a public record of the basic facts of a particular copyright. However, registration is not a condition of copyright protection. Even though registration is not a requirement for protection, the copyright law provides several inducements or advantages to encourage copyright owners to make registration.
(source: http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html) -----------
So basicly you own the copyright on something as soon as you create it. Even though...

I would like to remind and regrettably inform some of you for the first time, that Theo_himself is in no way the official voice or organizer of the project. He has helped out yes. But he has also been so presumptuous as to make decisions about how this project is to be run, with out consulting me or any others I might add. This project is supposed to be run democratically. I volunteered myself to be the center link in the decision making process. I thought maybe you all knew that. I'm very displeased at the way theo handled himself during the scuffle with the slsk members. He was in no position to give or deny credit to anyone. The final piece is not intended to be sold. This was just intended to be a way to draw the community tighter, and give an insight to our creativity while enjoying each others music. Phobia expressed his concern over the name to me. that's one of the reasons why I haven't created anymore Xltonic Massacre threads. I'll leave it up to everyone to decide. I believe we're all capable of agreeing upon a name without starting a riot. I hope so at least. As soon as we can decide on a name, I will propose an updated version of the guidelines. If you have any question. I can answer them here or by email.

Haha yeah a friend and I were going to call our project Oprah for Dummies, for two resaons:
1) shock horror at imagining there are people too stupid to readily comprehend Oprah, and
2) get sued = infamy = $$$$$!
We never got the project off the ground but we drank many many cases of very nice beer.
