HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE
HE-MAN! And the Masters of the Universe.
I am Adam, Prince of Eternia, defender of the secrets of Castle Greyskull.
This is Cringer, my fearless friend.
Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic
sword and said: "By the power of Greyskull"
HE-MAN!
"I have the power!"

I've never read the manual.
its pretty straightforward, imo. although, all the specific stuff, for that you'll need the manual, yes.

cubase is full of rocks to turn over. thick manuals are a good sign, unless the thickness is from it repeating in 14 languages.

I'm inclined to agree.
There seems to be a trend in some music software to have a new version every year now. It sort of makes a paper manual or buying a "how to" book for the DAW a bit redundant. I loaned my Power Tools for Reason 2.5 to a friend, never bothered to ask for it back as things have changed so much that very little in it is relevant any more.
This shifts the balance in favour of PDFs (that they can update constantly) or youtube videos and tutorials. As good as youtube tutorials are for some things, IMO music production isn't one of them. Having to have another window open on another screen and constantly going and hitting pause whilst you replicate the steps in your own DAW (as well as seeing parameter settings in a grainy video) is not as good as in a book.
I miss the days of big print manuals that you could read on your lunch break then rush home to try the new thing you learnt out on your DAW.
On a related note, I have the Air documentary on DVD, haven't got round to watching it yet.
