I'm babysitting 5 children between the ages of 6-11 and we're listening to Confield and Drukqs, and they are LOVING it, totally blown away.
I'm a loser.

The only song they haven't liked so far is a pussy piano song I thought they'd like, and Parhelic Triangle.

the appeal is due to a lot of it being very melodic (moreso than what actually sells records: hip-hop, rock, and country), it having interesting sounds, it being largely instrumental (no lyrics to confuse the young'uns), and a lot of it having very innocent qualities to it (especially rephlex joints).
confield and some of drukqs i dunno the appeal to kids tho, asides from the sounds.

You should see them dance! It's insane. I try to be the grumpy cousin, but this is riot.
Their heads are going to fall off listening to Cockver10, I swear.
This is my Friday evening.

lol, and you're typing messages on a messageboard? ;-)
They could be cutting smiley faces in the curtains behind your back for all you know! :-p
5 children between the ages of 6-11 sound like a bunch of little devils >:), good luck!
Hm... and i wouldn't be surprised that small children like some idm (it often sounds very soothing and has lovely melodies), but the fact that it's confield and druqks does surprise me!

Yeah, and they're asking me who I'm typing to. I just said ''mind your own business and dance!''
COME ON YOU CUNTS, LET'S HAVE SOME APHEX ACID!!!!!!
They just stopped and laughed. I doubt they know what ''cunts'' are yet.
This is great, because before long, they'll be worn out and they'll just go watch TV and behave.

No man, that's so cool! When I were a wee beastie the older guy next door exposed me to all this weird old psychedelic music he listened to, and I loved it.
I especially loved the cover of his Genesis live album where they were all wearing costumes.
I continued the tradition by letting my friend's little brother listen to Syd Barrett's "Bike" in a pitch black room when I was a teenager. He looked dazed and happy and said, "let's do it again" like I'd dosed the little feller on acid or something.
And just last week I invited three children to sleep in my bed and listen to Boards of Canada! That's the most loving thing you can do, and that's what the world needs more of, sweet sweet love.

CAREFUL !! kids repeat everything they hear, do you want any one of those little monsters saying "cunt" for the next 2 weeks :0), lets just say your $5.00 and hour would be greatly diminished to a law-suit by mommy and daddy, cause thier cute little addorable kid now wont quit saying "cunt"

Unfortunately, in a couple years they'll be dressing like Britney Spears and me, the ''cool cousin'', will be the ''Weirdo Freak Music Cousin''! So they better hear this before commercialism takes them over.
The absolute BEST reaction yet was to Parhelic Triangle, they all just stood there looking at each other like, ''what the fuck?''.
I have a few songs in mind as long as they have the energy, Come to Daddy, Amstrom Feck (sp?), Cap IV...

it reminds me of this text from the gescom foundation: My experience with children using The Gescom Foundation has been limited by the poor functional qualities of the early
prototypes. I would put them in front of the screen and show them an interactive demo of how it works. Some would ask me
lots questions and the others would want me to shut up so that they could have fun by themselves. I would see them move
around the tracks and form undecipherable, but very beautiful compositions. Sometimes totally messy, sometimes very
organized, they all seemed to have a very affective relation to the tracks: the ones they liked, the ones they didnt like,
and the ones they ignored. I often asked them to invent a name for the track they had just composed. They would usually
choose totemic names like the ones Native Americans use: angry rabbit, sleeping sky, sad tree, blind frog, shouting man,
very small car, etc. Rare would be the ones who would ask me what the meaning of a track is. Most of these kids were under
ten with no logical approach to the world: they looked at things with the heart and just knew.

Recycle wanted an update so here 'tis:
After about another hour of Confield and a couple Draft tracks (my first time hearing them as a matter of fact), they got tired and wanted McDonald's, and I refused to get them any. So they made the rest of my evening a living hell.
It was fun while it lasted though.
Tracks that they liked the most- Come to Daddy, Cockver10, Pen Expers
Tracks they didn't like- Parhelic Triangle, Cfern, Kesson Dassleff, Lentic Catachresis

No cash... just headaches. The post-IDM dance-a-thon was hell, I should be compensated. But even though I didn't get paid, it's still useful because now my aunts and uncles kind of owe me one.
I told them McDonald's puts cow eyes in everything and that kind of shut them up and probably did permanent damage to their psyches. If they tell my aunt I said that then I'm in trouble.
