That scene where he?s rapping his way out of the beef in prison is so fucking embarrassing! Altogether a pretty crappy film.

I agree with tolstoyed, he's a preacher at heart. He doesn't speak, he declaims.
Funny, you posted some of his words a while back and it reminded me of a track on Blazing Arrow - now I notice duh, that was him on that track. I should read liner notes. :-)

lets see saul williams try and run america and see how furhter down the tube it goes, i hate these phonies its so easy to say something yet i mean give me a brake you think its so easy to deal with world affairs? this board is so anti american yet fail to see all the negativity of the rest of the world like america is so bad! give me a brake! if it wasnt for the US most of the world would be communist or under some other hitleresque rule but ya know we've done some bad stuff as well so lets condemn the US completely ..
but u wil all say im just trapped in the media propaganda that the US wants me to believe .. bleh the us needs to go back to a pre ww1-2 policy of isolationism so we can be blamed for what we now dont do

just because america is not the worst nation in the world doesn't mean it should be defended. i can hardly find a piece of clothing or dishware that isn't imported from sweatshop labor. we're dropping bombs on afganistan, not on known terrorist hideouts but poor ass villages because have no idea where the terrorists are. america may not be the worst, but it's fucking sick and you make me sick for thinking this nation is acceptable. humanity is diseased and america is right there perpetuating the sickness.

and fuck you if you think saul shouldn't be able to speak up about not supporting the current direction our government is going. maybe we should just get rid of free speech altogether. bush would love that and you'd support him all the way.

gee god forbid anyone should disagree with something on this board or have an opposing political view, i dont agree with you but whatever im not going to hate you for thinking that, but hey im the bad guy for having my views.. everyone forgets the freedoms and liberties of America when bashing them, all i say is keep that in consideration at times before denouncing the country.. i never said he shouldnt speak up, just he should consider some shit first
instead i get shot down by your whining liberal cries.. as if i even cared what you or this board thought of me or my views, fuck off

since no one checked the not in our name site i guess no one realizes the mootness of b0nk's argument that saul is just complaining through his music and doing nothing else. not in our name = an anti-war organization. not in our name ep = a benefit for the organization.

im not bashing saul williams or what he said. all im saying is that when people take such harsh stances and say a lot of negative stuff about the govt they need to as well see the good.
i did read the site and listen to the track. the "not in our name" lists of stuff done he disagreed with.. what about the "in our name stuff" of spreading freedom and liberty ?

listen to saul williams' album or read his poetry to see what he's in favor of; the free songs put up on the web are meant to protest war, hence there isn't any "yes in our name" material in the lyrics.

yeah, the board is quite liberal, the ones who speak.
i don't feel that those who speak out about negative's of the govt really need to balance it with, "but they done some good too." it's just not relevant.

The US spreads freedom and liberty? For whom? The prisoners of Camp X-Ray? The Arabs locked up without trial? The dead villagers of Afghanistan? Those under the rule of a warlord in Afghanistan? The 500,000 dead children killed by sanctions in Iraq?
Their freedom and liberty or the freedom and liberty of the oil giants who financed Bush's election campaign (which as a fix was hardly an example of freedom and democracy).
As for Saul Williams, I was disappointed with the album.

why? cos it wasn't _____ enough? a) poetic b) hip-hop c) rock d) drum 'n' bass
i mean really, what were people expecting when they bought this album? i think it's awesome. lyrically saul is on point, vocally he slaughters it, musically it's a really cool blend of different styles and i give him propz for having the courage to make his music as diverse and sophisticated as his words (he could've easily rapped over canned beats, but that would've sucked). i also think the production by rick rubin and saul is great.

I cant put my finger on it, but I'm with jonsey. I was expecting something more from the album. It has some REAl good tunes, but to me, a few fell short of what I was familliar with.
I think everything pre-amethyst was 100% on point.

pre amethyst meaning his comp appearances and stuff.
like the 2 tracks on black whole styles; '1972' and 'twice the first time', 'ocean within' with krs and 'OM' which was completely badass..
oh yeah and the track with krush which i was never too big on.. nice speech, weak beat..
