I got some Sony mdr-7506 headphones to shut out the world when I play keyboard and listen to music.
Apparently, this model is the shiznit and pretty much everything else by Sony is crapola.
So far I like them a lot, although I imagine they'll sound better after a few days of breaking in (gonna leave them playing, hm, maybe some Tommy Guerrero overnight).
So immediately I can say that they're fuller sounding than my Grado SR-80s, and though they're not as peaky in the high end I do believe they're actually more detailed! I'm listening to Confield and noticing stuff I'd never really heard before.
They have been accused of a smidgen too much bass but I'm not getting that at all.
oooooooooo listening to Kind of Blue by Miles Davis is a real treat with these.

Oh they're already working out... they're a closed design, so I can't hear my wife's loathsome television shows at all. ^_^
Yeah that Books album is fucking top notch, isn't it? I love all the vocal samples. You. You! You! Wonderful things...! Good... things! A piece of dead steak!

I have the same headphones. They're exceptional. Excellent purchase. I've seen them used in professional applications like feature film sound, audio production, stuidio monitoring, and of course, listening to IDM :)

These things are like dissecting microscopes for your ears - they present the audio in unbelievable detail, but sometimes you maybe didn't want to see alla them greasy pores and blackheads, you know? I guess that's what makes them great for producing... you don't miss a thing.
Well produced music is a real treat with them though. Listening to that Books album, or Jan Jelinek, is like hearing it for the first time.
I'd rank these things ahead of any of the Senns or Grados I've heard. Then again I've never tried the Senn hd-600s or those top of the line Grados that are made of like cherry wood and mink.

imho Audio-Technica ATH M50 are the best i've ever used for the price range. Sony mdr-7506 are used all the time in recording as i think their response is slightly boosted in the vocal range. you can go mad researching and trying out cans tho.
