Thanks to mylittlesister for indirectly turnin me on to
this titanic groovin death jazz juggernaut. I got the two
disc version with one extra track (feio).

I could just jam along with that shit all day, all
headphones and electric piano and scratchin my nuts, all
takin a break to make tea and wishin the weekend would last
forever.

Huh! That's obscure enough to merit a download.

Well that tune's neither here nor there...

You're just showing off your considerable knowledge of pop
music history, you old codger.

I should get that record! I've been listening to a lot of
jazz lately. That Thelonious Monk dude for instance has made
some pretty fantastic stuff. I have this collection of
recordings from the mid 40's and it rocks serious idm-ass!!!

Recommended!!!

on the corner by miles davis reviewed

Yeah I want that one too. It sounds, from the descriptions,
completely nutso and ahead of its time.

There is only one Miles Davis. After he sold his soul to the
devil, the devil had no more use for souls. Musicians would
come to him beggin for talent and the devil would say, naw
man, not till I come down, oooo the colors.

did you like the review? my bro wrote that.

"In a silent way" got me into jazz. It's really special,
well worth getting.

cool fleetmouse, glad i helped in more than one way :D

we've just finished studying "Move" by Miles Davis - off of
'the birth of cool'. And I've just started to read a
biography on him too.

you should really get "kind of blue" and "in a silent way".
amazing albums :-)

You studied 'Move'? what was your conclusion? "oh yeah
brilliant tune, you know."

Dude, do you have a lead sheet or the changes or something
for Move?

I'm thinking of getting the John Szwed biography, is that
the one you're reading?

I have bitches, bertha the cool, kind of blue, silent way,
miles smiles, sketches of spain and aura.

Diablo you tell your bro he is a BAD MOTHER FUCKER. :-)

heheh something like that :-)

we just had to look at the solos and how it uses the "rhythm
changes" (the chord changes from Gershwin's "I Got Rhythm").
We've got to compose a piece using the chord sequence and
similar melodic ideas next.

Last time I was at HMV I noticed they had a new remaster of
Bertha the Cool.

Every ten minutes they re-re-remaster another Miles disk and
release it with new packaging, eek! And then the box sets
featuring alternate takes where someone farted and they had
to open a window and they captured the window creaking with
a Telefunken 666 dual hyperbolic stairmaster.

i'm all up for remastered stuff, means i can play it LOUDER
:) without it all fuzzing up

Miles Davis is the fucking man. Love his stuff. If I could
play the Trumpet like him then I'd be very happy. As it
happens I don't so I'm not really happy. Anyone ever checked
out Conrad Gozzo? Shit that dude could scream his trumpet.
Played for Sinatra back in the old days. Died of alcoholism.

well the changes to i got rhythm go:
A section:
Bb Gm7 Cm7 F7
Dm7 Dbdim7 Cm7 F7
Bb Gm7 Cm7 Ebm/F
Bb F7 Bb -

B section:
D7 Am F/D D7
G Daug5 Dm G7
C7 Gm7 Ebm/C C9
Gb7-5 F7

the form for each part goes AABA, and that form is repeated
5 times, plus an intro and coda.

the biography that I'm reading is by Ian Carr.

those changes have been transposed into Move's keysignature
of Bb... just thought I'd say that in case any Gershwin fans
started threatening my life for getting the key wrong!

I listened to Move as I read through your chords... My brain
just went, like *skroink*

Didn't realize there was roughly one chord change per
second. @_@

Well maybe I can learn to play the lounge version...

pharaoh's dance is sweet...esp. the repetitive arpeggio that
the electric piano plays near the end, over and over, and
then miles comes in with the theme, real laid back in his
delivery, but you realize that the electric piano has been
playing that theme all along, just much faster.

it sounds like insanity must feel.

yeah... less trumpet tho, i always think.

the actually track "in a silent way" is amazing. got a
really nice guitar middle section/piece, as its made up of
two pieces, following on from eachother. the first piece is
then repeated again at the end.

Isn't it awesome? I haven't listened to it for a while -
time to dig it out again. It's so restless and organic,
shifting around and twisting, but it never becomes
unpleasant or unbearably fucked up the way some freejazz
can, like a wasp buzzing in your face.
