I check it very regularly. I just can't check it work due to
stupid restrictions. curse the IT department. I'd have it
downloaded in a matter of minutes if it wasn't for them.
Thanks for the FTP though Elusive. When I get Broadband
available in my area I'm going for it.

that thing gets like 10frames on my rig. 2ghz, GeForce 4
4600ti, etc, @ like 480x640

the lighting is great, textures are ok, but I definetly
won't buy it, FPS ain't my thing

btw, it's not even the beta version of the game, but the
Alpha

meaning bugs, incomplete levels, what have you......

Fuck, although as you say it's an Alpha version so maybe
that's because of a lack of"preening".

alpha, well it was basically made to show off @ e3.

not to be released

those scriping events, maps, etc formed for e3 demo.

i love how people start making thoughts and opinions about
alphas (in other forums)

for petes sake, it's got 500+mb wavs (uncompressed) and
normal to low textures, etc.

and 640x480 / 800x600? eww but that's all yer gone be
playing in....

there are hardly any bugs, just slow as shiz on the 4400.
20fps later it aint funnay

oh yes, the reason that the fps is so shitty is due to the
fact it is a BETA
this is going to be one amazing game once it is finished
i can not believe someone would doubt id
i hope you get cancer and die

no it prolly doesn't have built in mp3 decoder in the game.

this game will be 5.1, so, gonna have lots of audio data.

it runs like ass because of real time lights, shader
siloettes (cpu bottleneck) along with the mass amount of
polygons.

not to mention every surface is bumpmapped.

it is expected to hvae 80+ mb of texture memory, so 128mb -
256mb card is going to be def needed :D

i can't imagine FPS having anything to do with it being a
ALPHA leak. not a beta leak.

It is going to require top end hardware in a year or so, so
imagine what it does to a good rig now?

Didn't understand the resolution comment, I played it in
640x480 cuz that is all this thing could give me with some
playable frames.

i thought you said you decompressed the wavs and saw they
were 500mb+?

offline elusive from detroit (United States) on 2002-11-04 19:38 [#00427919]

no
they are uncompressed

they are outright HUGE
they are NOT compressed

it takes a while to load the level/sounds in

hope you dont have < 512mb ram.,

elusive, I grabbed the file from your ftp.. Thanks
Got it running, went and did the things the html file
mentioned should be done first.. did the exec runact.cfg and
left it to load shit.. and it runs out of memory :/
thats with 256mb ram, Celeron 900 and a TNT2 (yes, I know
its not going to be playable.. just want to SEE the game in
action rather than simple screenshots...)
Anyone else with these computer specs managed to get it
running?

your card doesnt do per pixel shading / new openGL / directx
8/8.1 extensions, so it won't be real time lighting /
pretty, sorry.

i never did delete the runact or doom3 config

i just unrar'd and played it
cause the current doom3config had some nice binds :)

btw i just played single player quake2 last night
FUCK I FORGOT HOW GOD DAMN AWESOME THAT GAME WAS
someone help me.now

Finally got it working by just loading up the individual
maps via the console.. slow as buggery.. and some missing
textures, but thats probably my gfx card not having all the
features they're requesting.
Never really got to play QII that much, was in the time when
my pc was just too slow to run it.. finally upgraded around
the time QIII was out.. I love both games.

keep in mind the wavs are 500+mb and UNCOMPRESSED which is
why it takes a while to load the maps :)

experience, there is already SO FUCKING MUCH going on with
this release, err leak.
you get the idea

i have a 4400 leadtek oc/d

Whats the min. decent spec- I'm not bothered about what
it'll barely run on, or run amazingly, just something it'd
be playable on...?

I take it 1.3ghz Athlon & 512mb Ram & 64mb Geforce 2 is too
slow...

Basically I try to extract and it creates a couple of
folders but nothing else. I'll give it try at work tomorrow
as that's a beast of a machine. May be my machine is too
weedy to uncompress it.

I should have been more explicit. The folders were created
but there was nothing in them at all. It literally created
two empty folder. I'm going to try again today in a minute.
This computer has a gig or RAM. If it doesn't work then I'll
assume that the download dropped just before it finished.
It's the right size but a few Kb's can make a difference in
my experience.

Just bought Doom3, I waited so damn long to play this game
and it was like christmas when I installed it. It took me a
while to get it set up to where it runs perfectly on my
computer, and I've ordered another 512 megs of ram
specifically for this game (ahh the nostalgia; I remember my
dad paying $110 for 4mb of ram just so I could play Doom
back in the day). But holy good god, it's a great game. Good
day to you all, I'm off to play it.
