surrond:

1st paragrap: its our instinct to kill, but society has
repressed that instinct.

2nd: disagree

if you cut off a thief's hands, he can't steal anymore...
ever. So it would serve a purpose.

And you are right, it doesn't do society any good to keep a
criminal alive... but that doesn't just mean we should kill
them :-/

It also doesn't do society any good to keep coma-patients
alive... or people with terminal diseases... or even old
people. But we're talking about human beings! I really don't
thing you should talk about them in terms of value to the
society. Every human life is valueable.

poor people are no good to society, in the eyes of
capitalists (e.g. the Western world, and most of the
rest!), so why not kill all of them?!

damn capitalism..... there was a bombing outside a
macdonalds on saturday. Unfortunately the 'restaurant' will
not close down or make their food more healthy. The bomb
injured 7 people, macdonalds has probably killed..... (I'll
leave that for you lot to fill in!)

sorrry about that babbling. BYE!

"torturing criminals?
it serves no purpose."

and killing does?

"killing them would be to completly rid them from society."

and?

"torture would not solve anything"

....maybe it would feel good for the victim.

"tell me what good, for society, it does to keep a criminal
alive?"

haha, so when society has no use for you they're allowed to
kill you?
too bad for the ill old people who live alone....

"its our instinct to kill, but society has
repressed that instinct."

You might be right there. Soldiers in a war often describe
it as a good feeling to kill their enemies :-/ I saw a
documentary on this, and one of those veterans said it was a
feeling comparable to having sex.

But if you're saying it's natural for us to seek revenge and
sentence murderers to death. It's our instinct and therefor
right... than you're also saying it's alright for a murderer
to kill someone, because it's his instinct.

I don't think we'll be able to agree on the lion ;-)

It's been a very interesting discussion indeed. It's a shame
Zeus is the only pro-person online tonight... i kinda feel
like i'm picking on you personally, but i'm not! I just find
it an interesting topic :-) But i need to go to bed now.
Over here it's 2:36 am.

nightnight.

"not every murder trial should end with a death penalty,

but how about one were a guy rapes a 14 year old girl, and
kills her.

he is obviously fucked up. "

reasoning like that always fukks me up.. how can you say
that? so if someone rapes an 18-year old girl thats not as
bad as a 14-year old?

we got a good discussion going here, i was doing a paper or
id be partaking more. i agree with you there qrter on the
14, 18 year old girl, its bad no matter what age.

yeah..! where do you draw the line..?

if its about the raping of minors, would it be 'better' (see
the brackets!!) to rape+kill a girl who just turned 18 than
a girl who's 17 years and 11 months..?

the instinct to kill can be seen, in symbolism, in society
still... Only, whilst murder is unacceptable, and may be
punished by death (in the USA at least), kicking people out
of their homes because they cannot find the money to make
their mortgage payment is acceptable - modern society,
sucking on the teets of Mammon (ie/ capitalism) is where we
find the instinct to kill symbolically... all those animals
fucking over whomever they can in their lust for power and
money... once (if Bush et al give us the chance/the general
populace wake up from their slumber) we evolve, then I'm
sure we will look back on this time with shame and wisdom.

couple of things.....since everyone including some americans
on this board think the US is the only country to have the
death penalty.....just a reminder that Saudia Arabia (along
with some other arab countries) have public executions.
China has televised and public executions and they have been
known to kill criminals for their organs....many reports
have proven this....although they deny it.

that said i am against the death penalty for several
reasons....

- morally i think it's wrong for the 'state' to execute
people (no matter how deserving) our current prison system
is not good for rehabilition.....so i won't say anything
about that. i think however that we should make them do
useful things for society......not making license
plates....but something useful....manual labor is a good
think IMO....they are in prison for a reason....i don't
think we should make it EASY for them at all...lets bring
back CHAIN GANGS......harrahhhhh

the other is purely economic....it costs more for the
'state' to execute someone than to keep them in
prison.....so why spend more tax dollars killing ONE
person.....won't make the world safer....sooo

ok.....so all that said

seriel killers like bundy, gacy, ramirez, etc....well they
just don't belong on earth...dunno where we'd put
them.....where did they send the criminals from Krypton
(another seinfeld reference) ?? that was a cool kinda
punishment.....=0)

I'm for it, but...

There must be as much proof as possible to the guilt of the
criminal. Wrongful executions are too frequent. You don't
screw around w/ something like that unless you have
overwhelming evidence.

The death penalty has an advantage. It will guarantee, with
100% certainty, that the person being executed will never,
ever be able to kill again. (Unless of course they come
back from beyond the grave).

Yeah but you can't always be sure you're killing a guilty
person. There have been tons of times we found people that
were innocent on death row, and cases of innocents being
executed. With a prison sentence, you can release the person
if they're proven innocent later.

I'm more of a life-imprisonment type of guy .. I mean DEATH
seems a little harsh, plus the finality and uncertainty
factors that you all have mentioned. However, murderers
shouldn't be let off easy and go to a prison-resort which is
what they've become.. it should be a 'punishment' .. not
inhumane, of course, but reasonably unpleasant. btw, I am
against abortion too.. to bring up an older topic. So I'm
pro-life in pretty much every sense of the term.. :)

All prison sentences should be cut in half and the saved
$billions spent on counselling / re-habilitation schemes for
inmates. If all you do is lock them away and re-inforce that
they are shit lowlife , you're pitting the world against
them ipso facto strengthening their sociopathic tendencies.
They should "graduate" from prison by demonstrating the
life-skills they have learned and placed with employers who
are government-subsidised to take them on. Despite what
people think, prisons DO NOT currently educate or
re-habilitate.

Then again anyone who murders kids or guns down shoppers is
to my mind already beyond salvation . I'd give them plenty
of great literature to read and a pen and paper to write
their own life-story, they might become articulate enough be
help us learn more about how to read the signs in potential
killers before they get to that point. Death penalties are
no deterrant, look at the US>
"why choose between killing and being killed ; When your
government can offer you both in one handy package"

I don;t like the death penalty

A/ death is an easy way out, ie you don;t have to live or
suffer for whatever you did

B/ If we kill prisoners then we ourslves are murderers and
should in turn face the death penalty ?!?!?!?!?!

You either kill or you don;t and no matter what the
circumstances are, murder is bad

I think it sucks that we have different level's of murder, I
mean it should just be like : "Is the guy dead?" Yes -
Murder, No - attempted murder

You don;t go, "Is the guy dead" yes "how dead ?! 1st degree?
2nd degree? "

HE'S FUKING DEAD !! MURDER !! plain and simple

It makes NO sense

Your 19 right?

Look back at when you were like 16-17 years old. What would
you do if you got a girl of a simular age preggers??

You have your whole life ahead of you, not much money to
support yourself let alone a child and still living with
your parents

Would you really bring a child into the world knowing that
it'll probably grow up in a poor enviroment ?
