I'm getting an AmigaOne when they come out, I'm sick of PCs,
Microsoft and Unix.

www.amiga.com - long live Amiga.

I saw that, Good thing about Amiga users is we stick
together. A new AmigaNet would form and everything would be
PD again. It can be avoided. Mac will do the same.

Amiga are making a comeback? :D
hehe,Ive still got my Amiga 1200 lying around

Comeback? ;) It's been lurking and yes. The new Amiga looks
pretty darn good. Have a look at amiga.com

They wont do as well as PCs but the beauty of the Amiga is
still there and saves you from Microsoft if you desire.
another option is a good thing.

Hook yr A1200 up again dude ^^

What will happen if that is fully realised:

Someone will make non-longhorn chips (these won't
necessarily be legal) and everyone will adopt linux. The
non-reading of other programs filetypes will be overturned
on monopoly grounds- if someone has say the most efficient
picture compression format, other people will argue that it
isn't an original idea, merely a logical progression.
We will all end up being paranoid linux geeks and will have
to play games on consoles rather than PCs. PCs will still be
used in business, but employees will be miffed at not being
able to use mp3s etc.

Dude! I'm also an Amiga user :) Don't really believe in the
AmigaONE, AmigaOS 4.0 looks better.

The real appeal of the Amiga was the incredible demoscene.
Bet a lot of people here would've been into demos like "deep
- psilocybin remix" by cncd.

that one is still excellent after all these years..
psychedelic and stylish graphics and wicked soundtrack by
yolk & legend. "fantasia, having a party is not my idea of a
fantasy. especially right now."

plays their favorite games.

If anyone don't know what TCPA/Palladium is, or he/she
thinks it will be good for him/her, please read this
FAQ page about this topic.

From that FAQ, "One well-known UK lawyer said that copyright
law is only tolerated because it is not enforced against the
vast majority of petty infringers." This is true... in the
UK at least, copyright law was introduced to protect the
interests of the public and author, not the publishing
houses.

I can't see microsoft doing away with pirated versions of
their software- they know full well the model works like
this:

Easily piratable software = large numbers of home users use
the windows family/large numbers of computing students learn
(at home) on pirated copies of microsoft development
tools...

When these users who pirate at home go to work, they are
already "trained" to use the microsoft products to at least
a basic level by experience. Make MS Office hard to copy for
example and watch as within 5 years the next generation of
the workforce turn up demanding star office on their
machines as it is what they have used throughout high
school/college.
