overrated movies?

Ok since there has been such a succesful thread of
underrated movies, why not make one with overrated movies.
What movies are in your opinion the most overrated movies?
I'd say the Godfather 1 and 2 are the most overrated movies.
Sure, they are good movies but honestly I think any Martin
scorsese mafia movie beats Coppola's hands down.

Ah c'mon man they're damn good films. Overretaed.... Hmmm.
What about Pulp Fiction. Actually, I love that movie. But
"The Bonnie Situation" scene with Quentin acting badly was
shite.

mm.. I do agree on The Godfather 2 - imo nr.1 is much much
better.

'american beauty' is way way WAY overrated.

off the top of my head

Natural Born Killers
Star Wars + sequels (I still like them a lot, but very
overrated)
Pi
Gladiator

Full Metal Jacket

I love it, and I think it's a classic, but something about
it just doesn't click with me. It's funny but not funny
enough, violent but not violent enough, weird but not weird
enough... I don't know. Babble babble babble.

I much prefer Saving Private Ryan... starring Mr. Hanks. ;-)

the first scene of ryan is pretty good

don't agree on Pi - its good..

saving private ryan: ha ha ha.

'ghost world' is overrated - very disappointing when you
know the graphic novel.

Pi is overrated, it hasn't even got a proper plot, just a
stupid excuses for dodgy camera work.

Requiem for a Dream is style over substance.

In fact most films are overrated junk.

Citizen Kane.

i've seen it three times, and i still haven't found out
what's so special about that movie....i guess the technical
aspect in that is way ahead of its time...but the story is
mediocre and just plain boring.

again, I don't agree. CK is slow by todays standards, but as
you say, the technical aspect was revolutionary at the time
and definded the way we see movies today.

still, doesn't mean you have to appreciate that ofcourse.

Austin Powers

I watched it three times to try and see what all the hub bub
was about. It was simply unfunny.

the 1st one isn't. 2nd one is though.

"I call it.. the 'death star'.."

"the 'laser' was made by the English physicist dr.Parsons..
thats why we call this the 'Alan Persons Project'."

Yes. American beauty was sappy and way to sentimental. The
sixth sense is pretty damn overrated, as its simply a
vehicle for a suprise ending. Lame.

I agree with Gladiator being overrated as well. Badly
filmed, flimsy special effects and crap storyline do not a
good movie make.

disagree with Ophecks

Full Metal Jacket sets the standard in war movies
It deals with the anal dehumanisation both graphically and
humourously at the same time.
It deals with individuality in a collective situation and
also the futility of combat
Its a truly worthy flick.....
Unlike ",....Ryan" which is a balls out US war propaganda
piece acting as vehicle for the Spielberg/Hanks career
complex.....

My most overrated movies are
1) AI (cringeworthy nonsense)
2) Lord of the rings (great effects; but ultimately
unadulterated mush)

AI too, that is one of the cheesiest movies ever in the

even though I have grown to enjoy it as a sort of
postmodernist pastiche of all the greatest scifi movie that
came before it..but when I first saw Matrix..I couldnt help
but count all the stuff stole from all that's been
before..and that naff martial arts stuff went on for too
long had me rolling in the aisles (I seen too many HK
movies)

so yes Matrix..even though it's a blast and a trat..but it's
the least original scifi flick being hailed as the most
original to come in ages..

i think anything with mass hype and popular appeal is
overated. you know the shite movies that have a big star
just to sell it...XXX if u consider that guy a star for
acting like the natural retard he is, or at least acts like
in view of the public.

i thought gladiator or anything with russel crowe is shit,
maybe because he's like the new bruce willis, diehard in
every movie....etc....anything steven spielburg touches he
ruins now. Lets not get started on George Lucas ;)

luckly peter jackson is keepin things real ;) i'm sure if
the above mention directers where in his shoes the
characters in the LOTR movies would be drinking pepsi in
pubs, and driving cars around middle-earth (well maybe not).
i like movies don't get me wrong, but i hate sell outs
hidden adverts, and shit recycled stories.

i hate hollywood. I hate movies that are made just to sell
to 14 yr old girls, and or teens, i hate chick flicks....Its
been years since i've seen anything decent hit the theaters,
and since many of the major studios have bought out smaller
distribs, you'll never see a good independant flick unless
it makes a film fest in east bumble fuck, which you won't be
able to see unless you go :) i hope hollywood dies.

~the end~
