watmm.com:

maybe less people are using it now because it has that dark
grey/blue colour?

the forum was nicer when it was a pale yellow.

I dont know people form the Joyrex used to intimidate me..is
it still that hostile over there?

Flea, they think it's really hostile over here. It goes both
ways, but I don't think either is hostile. Well, I think
over at watmm, they're generally more open-minded and
respect other peoples' opinions more -- of course, that's
not to say that everybody here is an arrogant prick. If that
was the case, I wouldn't go here.

I prefer the blue to the yellow. The yellow looked like a
puke colour to me. :/

maybe it was because the time I read there about half the
posts seemed to be about THOSE IDIOTS ON APHEXTWIN.NU did
this or that...I mean this is the only board I ever really
post on..so it's like home to me..and I guess I was a bit
too taken aback to contribute anything there..in that
atmosphere...
but that was a while ago..just have been just a bad time and
bad place...

yeah, agreed...I think the atmosphere is far nicer and we're
a much tighter cru...when I was there I never felt as if I
got to know anyone very well, not the same sense of
connection & friendship I feel here...

I still visit from time to time but seldom post...agreed, on
the design of the mb, I too prefer a much more minimal
design like our little home here....It also seems pretty
quiet recently (i.e. not many posts..)...

but I guess it's "quite good" tho...;)...

This MB is more easy-going, wich you can see of the amount
of posts. I think watmm is better when you want to read
serious postings. There is only a small amount of
"shit-talking", and almost no fighting. I think the number
of posts on .nu makes the small amount of info I need, drown
in other stuff (It's my fault too, I know).

But I like to hang out both places. I think most people
prefer to be at only one of the MB's

I never liked Joyrex's MB this has always been better. The
same people seem to return so you do get a sense of
community. Only the other day I was talking to my mates
about how someone I knew was in a pub that got hit by
lightening, only to find out it was one of you guys. It was
a strnge feeling. I genuinely thought I had been talking to
someone about it, and not just having read it on an MB.

two to load (any page).

watmm.com takes much longer to load with recent versions of
Netscape than with IE (on Windows anyway). Navigating the
site with Netscape 6+ or mozilla can sometimes try my
patience.

It might be a stylesheet rendering issue or javascript
thing. It's probably Netscape's fault.

not organized chronologically) and all around bites it....
sorry joyrex but thats my opinion and I am entitled to
it..... (too much ass kissing going on)

offline doctorvee from Kirkcaldy (United Kingdom) on 2002-08-14 22:23 [#00349543]

WATMM IS really slow with Netscape, although I don't think
he ever tests it with Netscape. It's a shame though, because
IE won't display the message board properly for me [I'm on a
Mac].

I had an account at Joyrex.com, but haven't posted in
ages... I read it occasionally.

It's a nice board, but this one is just so much looser and
funner. Much busier... yeah, it's not as serious, there's
some weird stuff... but there's more than enough ''serious''
posts to keep the serious people occupied (that's a lot of
serious, what a poorly written paragraph).

As for the site, a lot of work went into it, and it's pretty
spiffy, but not my cup of tea. I like the minimalist thing,
too... the content is great, but I'm not too fond of the
interface. The minimalism of this site is just flawless,
soooo sleek.

offline Joyrex from watmm.com (United States) on 2002-08-14 23:05 [#00349595]
Points: 1389 Status: Lurker

Ophecks: You might be in for a rude awakening with XLTronic
then - guess what happens when you multiply artist
information by 4 or by however many XLTronic will have? I
also think you might be mistaking minimalism for lack of
information (don't take that the wrong way).

I'm not going to sit here and defend watmm - it speaks for
itself, and I'm not in any 'who's better' competition like
some five-year-old. I got too much to do to be worrying
about that.

Netscape 7 (the beta at least) seems to have solved most of
their speed issues (they still don't support the bordercolor
attribute), and finally renders CSS almost as good as IE
does.

Doctorvee: our new MB might resolve that issue (although
your problems seems to be somewhat rare, because I get
plenty of Mac IE5 users).

In the end, it's to each his own, and that's where it should
end.

Maybe I came off as a bit too critical of your site.
Actually it's one of the few websites that I visit
regularly, one of my faves. I just have an obvious NU bias.
;-)

Just different strokes for different folks, you know. You
have a different approach than what I like. I'm just a
sucker for Phob's style of design, and for this board. But
you're doing a fucking GREAT job.

Thanks Ophecks - no worries, I'm not out to force anyone to
like my site. I can appreciate and admire your support for
Phobia (he deserves it), and there is nothing at all wrong
with that. I think that's what makes these sites so great,
is the devotion of all the users.

bah well it makes sense that i post right after joyrex, a
moderator of the other board.
but i used to post here agesss ago but i barely knew anyone
and always knew loads of joyrex.com, and to be honest it has
become a lot less intresting at watmm.com to tell the
truth.
vik and corey feldman stick out in my mind as highlights.
watmm.com is very slow on updates (people are so lazy!) and
this place is so quick its more my pace, cos i just like
putting random stuff in.
anyway i know that it was bad a while ago but its all seems
ok now, maybe its the calm before the storm but im sure we
are all sensible people anyway...... :)

Hey Joyrex, I reckon my problem's probably down to some sort
of corrupt file or something, because I keep getting
Javascript errors all the time now, so I know it's not your
fault. :) Downloading a newer version of IE doesn't work...

Is it me or has the mb over there changed again?...

Think it's using the same off-the-shelf software as a lot of
other mbs out there...makes it look fairly generic tho but
should be a lot stabler, I guess...

Jand: Yes, it's "off the shelf" as you put it...when you
have the time, could you custom code me a MB so that way I
don't have to use "Off The Shelf" stuff?

The board was ALWAYS stable, through two database migrations
to boot - as for the look, well, yes, it's generic - what do
you expect from "Off The Shelf" software? I'm customizing
the skins now.

Sorry, woke up in a bad sort, and I am in no mood to deal
with .nu facism :)

I love the knobtwiddler section in Watmm, all serious
artists who really listen to your music and give
(constructive) critiscism.

Maybe the new XLR-site, should have a similar specific

That would be sweet

I am actually waiting for the day when you folks find a
reason to flood our messageboard again. That would keep us

Can't say much for the news-bit here, WATM definitely ownz
