It is in the sense that only women can be minging. All men are beautiful. Nah, in the sense that women are referred to as either minging or fit. to many men women are to be judged on their physical appearance and not on their personality or contribution. Steve equating "Computers" with capitalism is truly hilareous..The internet even in its sliced, diced, ecommerced, venture capitalised form..is the closest thing to an arnarchic state that this world has to offer....the collective subconsious so to speak or the village meeting place.. the dotcomm collapses just prove that most of the people using the interent arent using it for "capitalistc"persuits as the executives in the board rooms envisaged..sure there's people like Meho who's every pronographic need is being met by the net(just kidding, sorry,okay Meho..just kidding..you are coolest!!)..or free music which all of us indulge in.. but there's a good portion of the users..who are using it to plainly and simply communicate..hear what others have to say..compare notes, exchange ideas all things that are detrimental to a capitalistic system..where unless you are a prone consumer..open and willingly submitting to their prompts and prods and suggestions (ads) leading to consumption of their products..you are non desireable...well down here you can simply scroll past the banner..and after a while you can just blank them out or make a consumer decison and dwnload a freeware that skips all the banners and ads...and still have a continous experience unlike TV where you have to resort to channel surfing to avoid ads... a most basic example is the the most expensive product short of War machines that the populus comes in contact with...The Hollywood blockbuster..no amount of test audience directed tweaking and tuning..is going to shut up a dissatisfied punter getting on a message board very much like this one and say that the movie he just spent his hard earned cash on blew razor chunks...and the bad word about a bad product spreading is exactly what capitalism wants to avoid...... |

I've been reading these posts with interest. Jonesy and Meho know a hell of a lot on this subject, so it's quite educating. I checked out that Pilger link - I saw his documentary on Iraq. He really is quite fantastic. I think I'm going to try to read more of his stuff. Frankly though, this whole situation that we find ourselves in at the moment terrifies me. I can envisage WWIII or nuclear armageddon. And it has all been precipitated by the greed of Western nations, in particular the US and to a lesser extent the UK. But what CAN we do about it? I feel helpless. |
