Why DRUKQS is RDJs Best work.

My opinion only, but how many people agree with me?

I listen to Drukqs basically everyday.
At first I didn't really listen to the piano tracks, just
the main hardcore ones.

Those grew on me, then slowly I started listening to the
piano tracks.

Now I like basiacally every fucking song on those 2 cds.

Normally, no matter how much I like a song, I will get tired
of it eventually. Even some astrobotnia (beleive it or not)
but drukqs, never.

Never have I turned myself down to any track on the cds, and
now I am quite taken to all of the piano tracks.

Especially Plentyharmonium, and the slow tracks on the 2nd
cd.

Anyone else agree with me here?

lots of us like drukqs best, but it's important to put that
up front like you did cos it gets so much criticism.

Exactely,

you can _truely_ say you think the cd is important and very
good once you've had it for so long, listen to it so much,
and still hang on every note.

insane...

I've had drukqs recorded on tape in my car for almost a year
now and I've been listening to it ever since. I'm NEVER
gonna grow tired of it. At first I was always listening to
Avril 14th and Kesson Daslef, then Vordhosbn and Cock Ver10,
then Mount St. Michael and Ziggomatic, then Meltphace and
Taking Control, then I really got into the other piano
tracks like Father, Nanou2 and now I really can't skip a
track when I listen to it.

My absolute favourites though, after listening to drukqs at
least 100 times are:
Meltphace 6
Avril 14th
Taking Control
Vordhosbn
Bbydhyonchord
54 Cymru Beats

Thing is people don't want to admit it's a great album. I
still skip throught the stupid tracks like Father. He's just

ago when I played on my Grans Upright.

Fucking great album though.

awesome and the mediocre.
There are reasons for its being though:
bbdhonchord, 54 Cymru Beats, Petiatil Cx Htdui and Mt. St

father is probably my favourite of the piano-tracks!
Definitly the darkest one... i agree it sounds kinda "off",
like you're listening to someone who can't play piano,
playing the piano at first. But it really grew on me.

It's very eerie i think... i always feel like something
terrible is about to happen.

And i've also never skipped lornaderek... how could that
track not make you smile? :-p It makes george smile for
sure. I especially like how they burst out into laughter
after they've finished singing.

It's damn short anyway... it hardly seems worthwhile
skipping it... in the time it takes to pick up the remote
and push the 'next' button it's already over.

Now Gwarek2 is a different story... i hate that one. I wish
he hadn't included it (on an otherwise perfect (imo) album).
I still haven't started skipping it, but i'm starting to
seriously doubt if it'll grow on me.

I still think it's his best album so far though!

ok, gwarek2 is one of my favs, simply because of the eerie
silence and darkness in it. The bass dips into the 20Hz
ranges constantly (...like the whole damn cd =] =] =] )

I don't understand how some people just hate that song. I
continue to listen to it because it is so dark, just like
father.

To me father is like, well, those sounds are emotions
towards his father. Pretty fucked up sounds at that!

All the piano tracks have grown on me, especially nannou2.
It is SO SLOW, and SO SIMPLE, but I hang on every fucking
note. I play the song in my head when i'm listening to it,
and the notes have such a large space in between each other
that I always have it kick in in my head before it actually
does in the song.

I think it's a great opening to the cd (cd1/1) and a great
closing with nannou2.

Simply put, WOW.

I've never had a cd grow on me so much. I don't understand
how some ppl call the piano tracks "filler," when there is a
lot of genius in those tracks, no matter how simple they
sound.

And #7 cd1, that song is a great "head-bobbin" song to
cruise down the road to.

gwarek2 can be a REALLY fun listen if you're in the mood.
the sounds are "trippy" with great headphones and yea the
bass reaches those nice low levels.

it's not a bad album. like someone said, i probably like the
same fraction of it as i do with I Care Because You Do.

contrary to what nekta said, i don't think there's much
variety at all. there's either piano/traditional pieces,
acid or drum'n'bass madness.

but it's all quality.

i particularly like

54 cymru beats
cock/ver10
afx237 v7
meltphace 6
and taking control.

I sort of reviewed it somewhere, just to get it in words.

I'm treading a very thin line here. I have two options, I
can listen to it a few times and call it the best electronic
album of 2001 a few days after it has been released.
However, I could listen to it for 5 months straight, study
every nuance and break down each track and get inside and
see whats there.

I have picked the latter option. 5 months down the line,
aphex twin's work hasn't lost anything. In fact, Drukqs gets
better the more attention you pay. A few listens may leave
anyone who doubts aphex's ability with thier pessimisms
proven. However, drukqs is a fine wine. It takes time and
understanding for it to realise it's flavour. Drukqs is far
from a pick up and play CD; its the anti-pop. It requires
time and understanding to like the tracks, rather than
sticking it in and loving it for 4 listens, and then growing
tired.

Drukqs is like Aphex's career. There are many styles, the
old acid (Taking control), mental drill n bass (cock/ver
10), the gentle piano tracks (kesson daslef) and the concept
tracks (gwarek 2). Due to this, its hard to listen to in one
go. I would recommend putting each style onto its own
minidisc. The album oftenfeels like it was just put together
in a rush. Its almost like he just randomly threw a few
tracks from his vast stack of unreleased music (trust me,
thats a lot of tracks), which gives it a disjointed feel.

The tracks themselves are completely different. The piano
tracks are as basic as the moving, taking influence from
contempery composer, Erik Satie. Kesson Daslef is a great
example of this, its almost pure emotion, which, at first,
seems out of place with the towering monoloths of Mt. Saint
Michel+St Michaels mount, but after a while, they both seem
to feed off each other. Mental bit followed by calm bit does
work sometimes. But then again, it still can feel
disjointed. The drill and bass tracks take an almost direct
influence from squarepusher, but then have thier own sort of
melodic background. The tr

Points: 1897 Status: Regular

The tracks almost seem to have the drum making the main
melody, and background synths acting as a stable repeating
part. The concept tracks, namely Gwarek 2 and Gwely mermans
at first seem like pure filler. Once again, after time, the
beauty and depth of these songs comes out. Gwarek 2 being
one of the best tracks on the album. It probably isn't music
in the sense, but whatever it is, its amazing. The sounds
come from nowhere, leap around your head and leave like
nothing happened. Its scary, but the best representation of
whats going on in his twisted mind.

The main issue with drukqs is that, unlike previous aphex
releases, drukqs doesn't break any boundaries. The drill n
bass tracks aren't much different to those off RDJ album and
the piano tracks aren't really new. However, this still
sounds lightyears ahead of its competitors. If you've
brought drukqs, or had it copied off a mate (ahem) and hate
it, go back and listen to it. Go on, I dare you.
9/10

mt saint michel mix+st michaels mount
54 cymru beats
meltphace 6
taking control
ziggomatic v17

The piano tracks don't do anything for me. That's probably
because over the last 2 years I've been listening to more
and more classical music.

If I'm going to listen to piano, I much prefer Mozart,
Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Liszt ... there's just so
much other good piano music.

The worst problem of the album is the sequencing, thank
