Is music better experienced live?

Most people here seem to listen to a majority of electronic
music, which doesn't demand a "performance" live from the
artist and can be listened to in most any situation. But how
many of you have been to an AFX concert and think the
experience was better than that of his records? Or was it
just completely different?

Music is better experienced on headphones.

Is art better in a gallery or a book?

i went to the warp concert on wednesday

id say it goes both ways. While its great to hear it LOUD
with so much BASS, it kind of loses the sound quality, and
you dont hear the little details.

Musically, its better to listen through headphones i think,

but it is also a great experiance to see the guys up on
stage, making it, and having it BOOM through the speakers :)

Was there a lot of variation in the songs from the album
versions? From the squarepusher and AFX that i've heard
live, it sometimes sounds like they pressed a button and let
a CD player run the course of the concert.

I still remember seeing Aphex live in '97

I don't remember listening to Aphex in my bedroom last
Thursday afternoon.

thats the difference , the memorable experience of the
event. the sound quality is no better, but thats not the
point

well, honestly, of all the people i heard that night... the
only person who i acctually have a cd of, and listen to
alot, is Prefuse 73.

The songs where obviously the songs from the albums (youd
recognize the melody etc) but he would change them around
and what not

It was quite good imo.

As for the other guys... i dont know since i wasnt really
familiar with thier stuff.

Prefuse 73 was on stage, and he looked very busy though =)

I don't care too much for live music. I'd only really want
to see the Who (circa '70), The Beatles and maybe a couple
others live. AFX live doesn't interest me at all.

I also don't like headphones... I've had the house all to
myself, and there's been music blasting out of my speakers
24/7 at max volume. THIS is exactly how I like it... alone,
nobody else to interfere with me and my music. Headphones
are too claustrophobic, don't like them at all.

Yeah, its nice to have a decent stereo and the house to
yourself. I like music to envelope the area i'm in, and the
effect is much better than headphones.
