has anyone here ever thought to him- or herself: hmm, why
not take up smoking? just all of a sudden i mean. i often
wonder about how people start smoking, i'm sure not every
case is peer pressure.

No...why would I intentionally want to shorten my life?

I.e. once there was a boy named Little Kid. Little was so
afread to end up like the geeks in his school that he found
the "James Dean'ish" troublemaker-look more appealling. He
simply started to smoke. 50 years later he died of cancer.
The End.

yeah..I know this isnt the way it happens all the time, but
this is how i most often see people starting.

I started smoking at school on Friday's before the last
lesson and on the night (not to 'fit in', because I fucking
hated everyone at school.), this was when I was 16, I'm 21
now and I have been smoking all that time. I do
weightlifting and training but my chest is always tight.
Some days after I do a long workout I suddenly start
coughing and have to run to the bathroom to clear black
stuff from my throat. My cilia is starting to burn from the
smoke so I have trouble clearing my throat now. I have to
stop soon or my heath will drop to a point that is totally
wrong for me. I tried giving up using those patches but
still smoked while wearing them. I have an addictive
personality so I get into the routine of smoking and it's
also a placebo to my depression. The worst thing I ever done
in my life was start smoking. I smoke because I'm chemically
addicted to nicotine, I don't enjoy it now unless I'm
smoking to calm myself down.

I dont want to live past 40 anyway.

well, i smoke weed pretty commonly, and one time when I was
stoned off my ass someone passed me a cigarrette and I just
hit it, or took a drag or whatever u cig-heads call it, and
realized it was quite the dumbest thing ever.

I have sympathy for those who are addicted, but I'd much
rather habitualy smoke pot where I'm in a situation that I
can stop if necessary just because I want to. For instance,
I've been sick for about a week and havent had a single
craving to smoke any weed, simply because weed is only
mentally addictive, and then only if you let it control you.
If I was addicted to nicotine, on the other hand, I probably
would have been smoking the entire time I was/am sick.

spikee: i hope you find a way to quit man, good luck to
you.. =)

Yup. I have, and occasionally still do. I'm not a smoker.
But I reckon the act of smoking is fucken cool - and all the
paraphernalia you can get .. the zippo lighter, the metal
cigarette holder, the 'ritual' of rolling one .. etc. etc.
..

Ofcourse there's downs - the smell is probably the biggest
for me, lungs is pretty shitty, and vascular system comes in
at third. Though i still reckon there can be virtue in 'a'
cigarette.

I smoke too many joints to quit ^-^ I will have to give the
cigs up tho because my training is very hard while I smoke.
Joints are worse cuz after a few of those I cant pick my
remote up let alone weights. }:)

That was a very honest insight Spikee about smoking... quite
refreshing, as most smokers have a "fuck you it's my body"
attitude.

I can't believe how inconsiderate the overwhelming majority
of smokers are, they just cannot accept that some people do
not like smoke in their face.

I smoked socially from 13 to 16 because I thought it was
"hard", not never heavily. At 16 the novelty wore off and
I'm not an addictive person.
My weakness is that I cannot relate to addictive people and
end up getting pissed off with them.

No matter what your parents or peers tell you, smoking IS
hard. After ten Lambert & Butler I've won many a fight. I've
also impressed lots of women with my habit. After lighting
up a Molboro they go weak at the knees and all I have to say
is "Come hither" and they're mine.

As Chuck Key said "Don't believe the hype".

ive come to a point where i feel that my body says no! its
strange but..im not a smoker... im what we call here in
sweden, a "snusare". that meens that i use "snuff" instead
of smokes. if you dont know what that is, well its tobbaco
you put under your over lipp...
well to my point... ive felt this feeling the last months
that i dont need nicotine as much as i needed before... it
just said stop... and im feeling much better in my head..i
feel..hmm..i feel much more positive... and thats just i tip
if your smoking alot and feeling depresed alot without no
reason... you know that nicotine is the strongest poison
after heroin.. so my tip to you is to stop smoking or at
least smoke less...

I smoke randomly. Some weeks I'll have a couple of packets
then others nothing. I don't know why but some weeks I just
really crave a cigarette then others don;t give them a
second thought. I've never thought "Ooh I'll take it up"

"seems to me that mental addiction is often underappreciated
- it is after all an addiction ..."

you are completely right, but I meant that a mental
addiction is by far the easiest to avoid. You can't TELL
your body to stop craving nicotine, but u can tell yourself
not to smoke weed, and your body wont physically be craving
it anyway. For a while this summer I was smoking pot every
day several times a day, and then I just took a week long
break because I wanted to, its as simple as that. You just
cant let yourself get too wrapped up into it.

I also believe that if my government would just legalize and
regulate marijauna, that there would be MUCH less mental
addiction based on the fact that there would be no glamor
(sp?) left in doing it because "its cool to do things that
are illegal" :)

vonb, will you be my friend? :)

seriously tho, aphex and some bud makes me one happy camper.
its not that the weed really enhances the music that much,
but rather allows me to appreciate it much more deeply. that
shit is spiritual, man!

Smoking is fine for your health but only if you grow yourown
tobacco and roll your own. Its the crap the cigarette
companies put in the cigs that is bad for you. You don't
hear about massive amounts of Lung Cancer in Shamanic tribes
where part of their rituals is to smoke massive amounts of
tobacco. Having said that I smoke Superkings which are
probably the worst for you. Until ganga is legal its what I
smoke when i fancy it.

when i was aboot ummm 10 i 'borrowed' two ciggarettes from
an uncle and me and my cousin went into a camper and TRIED
to smoke them. i believe i turned GREEN.......we both ran
out of that smoked out camper to get watah in my house and
well.....you can imagine our SECRET wasn't a secret much
longer!

my father set me down on the table and asked if i wanted him
to buy me a pack of ciggs so i could smoke them all and get
it out of my system.....=0) i reckon thats what took ANY
desire to smoke ever again out of my system!

i'm so glad that happened to this day......it's a very VIVID
memory, as was the whole first time smoking experience. why
did i want to try it....well when i watched my uncle smoke,
it did look KOOL. thats of course from a 10 year olds
perspective.

i was mentioning just yesterday how a festival concert last
friday was marred for me by TWO things one the sound system
was so loud i thought my EARS were gonna bleed they hurt so
bad. the other was there was this pack of girls behind me
that for the entire show 4+ hours, who smoked (and drank)
NON STOP. it smelled like a bar OUTSIDE. the air was so
still and it was 100+ degrees weather that the smell and
smoke lingered. i had to leave constantly for AIR breaks (i
have asthma btw and did not have my inhaler) plus my eyes
were burning. at once point during the evening one girl had
a joint in one hand a ciggy in the other. i mean HOW
ridiculous is that!!! by the end of the night i coulda
jumped those girls i was so bugged.

anyway IMO it's terribly inconsiderate, even outdoors in
close proximity to others who do NOT smoke, to smoke.
interestingly enough have no close friends who smoke either.

it's sad as well to see some hard core people on flights who
can't go 1 hour without a smoke. one guy even asked if he
could smoke OUTSIDE the door of the plane while we were
loading passengers. i told him.....there's 1000 pounds of
jet fuel out there, that would NOT be a good idea.......and
he was like SOOOO I NEED A CIGARETTE!! he was serious.

cont...

i WAS serious too when i asked him to sit DOWN.

it's sad to see people such slaves to their addictions =(

spikee dragon GOOD LUCK with quitting. i know how your chest
feels after that concert experience!

theres my TWO cents and them some folks =0) guess i had a
lot to say about this topic

I love to smoke and i can't imagine a life without tobacco!
The health hazard of smoking is way exaggerated. At least I
try to eat healthy and really I feel fine. I'm 29 and I have
been smoking since I was 18... and what is a joint without
tobacco?!?!?!

The thing is you can't really quit. You will NEVER stop
having cravings and I simply don't want to torture myself
like that! The brain is designed for nicotine...its
natural....
