Techno vs. Pop

ok... I know alot of you guys dont like techno here... like
trance and mainstream dance music...

and I also know alot of you dont like mainstream pop... the
whole of MTV's line up is an example...

so... if you have to be in a place that has music... and the
only choice is techno, or pop... what would it be?

I personally dont have too much of a problem with techno...
but I dont listen to it normally... and I dont buy it, and I
dont think its anything special...

so i vote for techno...

what do YOU vote for?

i see techno as stuff like lfo, plastikman, speedy j, etc..
which isn't bad at all.

now
dance music vs pop

i'd probably chose dance music, but that's already pop
anyways

apartment I use to give em back the same medicine....54

METAL! Oh, wait, there was no metal enlisted down there.
Uhm, well, obviously "pop" and "techno" need to be defined
more precisely... Pop is a broad category. It includes Nick
Cave as well as Britney Spears as well as Mano Negra as well
as Enrique Iglesias. Just as "techno" includes UR/ Kevin
saunderson/ Derrick May/ Jeff Mills as well as Plastikman,
Christian Vogel, Classics-era Aphex Twin, Thomas Brinkmann,
Pan Sonic, Kit Clayton, Thomas Jirku etc. I can't choose
between them, I choose good bits of both categories for my
personal convenience.

i like christian vogel more than nick cave ;)
seriously it is difficult to compare this two styles- pop is
"warmth", techno is "frost".
what do you like more? warmth or frost?

Pop is like melted sugar that have lied in the sun
for 2 weeks...with flyes and animals all over.
Techno is like those cheap plastic sunglasses you buy
on vacations. They look cool when you buy them, but after a
while you put them away.

>techno is the machine for putin you or your brain in motion

Well, techno is how I got into the different styles of
electronic music, so I'd have to say Techno. But theres a
lot of bad techno as well, and I do like some pop songs. I'm
not afraid to say I really like Britney Spear's Slave4U!!
Some of the lyrics are cringe worthy though. And that's the
only Britney I like by the way!!

And I don't mind Kylie either. People have said before that
Kylie has been to Rephlex gigs!!!

I'd rather be in a good techno room rather than bad pop.
Though I would rather be in a good pop room rather than bad
techno. And if the choice was between bad techno and bad pop
I'd choose bad pop because at least it would be good to make
fun of it.

Techno is dead. It was swollowed up by the media, epecially
the music media who applied the term techno to the rash of
shite dance tunes in the early to mid 90's. Techno was the
IDM of its day...but it didn't have a stupid elitest title
so it was easy for the media to use.

Kit Clayton, Tomas Jirku.

I'm a bit confused about your definitions of techno.....
I always thought techno was any experimental electronic
music, a la aphex and squarepusher?

Ummm. . . . okay, have you guys forgotten that Aphex Twin
IIISSSSSS techno for god sakes!!!

And fuck already don't call it "techno" that's what ignorant
preps who don't know shit about it, call it. Call it
electronica, please.

And I would go with electronica, then. It's got way more
depth, variety, and overall there's more quality in
electronica than there is in most pop.

Electronica is and always will be my passion. Every aspect
of it, every genre (house, trance, electro, drum and bass,
drill and bass, tech-step, progressive house, acid, acid
house, goa trance, intelligent dance music, break-beat,
big-beat, hard-house). I LOVE it all!!! I love DJ Tiesto,
Paul Oakenfold, and ATB (cheesy guys who you all surely
hate), but I also love Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Boards of
Canada.

I am the epitome of open-mindedness.

ELECTRONICA (techno, as you guys foolishly call it) DOES NOT
SUCK YOU IDIOTS!!!

how many times to I have to say it, Aphex Twin IS
electronica. He makes acid, drum and bass, and intelligent
dance music, which are all sub-genres of electronica.

Techno is even stupider. My best friend, he's got a new,
better term, he just calls it "tech". It's shorter and
easier to say than "electronica" or "electronic music", and
it's cooler and not as preppy as "techno".
